To get back to the expressed topic of this good thread after all this thread creep:

It is a sad story from my youth that I was told about. My uncle got very tired of having to clean out the bottom of his too shallow outhouse. He lived in a cabin on old mining property in Southern Illinois, so he built his next outhouse over an abandoned mine shaft that he'd never ever have to dig out.

The day he finished it, he went out there to be the first one to use it! After 4 hours, my father decided they ought to go and check on his wellbeing. They found him sitting there----dead----aparently asphyxiated. My dad figured out, he thought, what had "gone down"---so to speak. For some reason, uncle always held his breath until he heard the splash!!!!!

For catapult power you need a Barnett "Black Widow" and aniseed balls
in experiments it had a range of over 300 yards!!!!if you use BBs it was about a quarter of a mile!!

Liquorice. Any kind of liquorice, so long as it's black -- like, you know, real liquorice. It can be a Twizzler or a bag of Nibs or even those disgusting candy-coated Goodies things that taste of cheap perfume. Basset's Liquorice All-Sorts -- yesssss. Or that double-salted Dutch stuff, but I gather that's a minority taste. All the more for me.

Why did I eat Sen-Sen when I was neither a smoker nor a drinker? Did I even know that was its primary use then?

Does anyone remember a candy bar called Seven Up during the 1960s. It was like a Whitman Sampler (seven different candies) but all attached in one break-apart bar.

Jujubees suck! If I had a choice between a hundred pounds of Jujubes and a single Snickers bar, I'd go with the Snickers. Same for those damned Gummi Bear things. Nothing but sugar and some sorta shit that glues your friggin' teeth together. Yeah, I know all candy's just empty calories, but I prefer something that at least pretends to be food.

I was always a Necco wafer guy at the movies---six cents a roll. Never did cotton to Jujubes; too small, too hard and too little flavor... otherwise they were really good.
