At the last couple I went to, last month, I bought a late Victorian widow's bonnet in brilliant condition, followed by a late Victorian/Edwardian black shawl the next week. The previous month I got a Victorian bidet, to go with one I had already got - they make good little tables, and I dare say you could cool drinks in 'em at a party if you wanted!
(I'll get up to York racecourse again this week, I hope, if I can fit it in before I go play for a local school's maypole dancers in the afternoon).

We bought a large stained glass/leadlight shade for $30, made of good (and expensive) glass. We paid and ran before the poor stall holder realised he could have had at least $100 or even $150 on the price tag.

A while back I bought an antique map etched onto a very large framed piece of copper, for an anniversary present for hubby. $10, but I gave the stall holder $15 because I doubt very much that he knew what it was worth. Copper theft is rife around here. The copper alone would have been a windfall for him if he had taken it to the scrap yard.

Lovely map. Two circles of eastern & western hemispheres of the earth. Wind-blowing cherubs & frolicking whales etc.

You can guarantee we won't be selling it for scrap.

Helen

Oh, I've got a deck of cards for you, Mary, if you like knot tying. I always send a deck to my Santee. Get it at the local ranch/farm store. Scads of knots used by cowboys/ranchers. Kind of fun, imo.:-)

I don't shop at tag sales anymore. I am planning on having one, though. Ya'll come! (Maybe we could do this? It could be a virtual sale with part of the proceeds going to Mudcat? Maybe all join in and donate, have it once a year or every six months?)

what did you buy at the carboot this weekend?

I just missed out on a set of chimney sweep brushes but did manage to buy half a dozen books and a victorian tea tin.
