Subject: RE: BS: 'Village People' Policeman in hospital From: GUEST,Jonny Sunshine Date: 09 Jul 08 - 01:47 PM I read somewhere that the US Navy actually planned to use "In the Navy" for a recruitment campaign, until someone pointed out that that might give the wrong impression. Apparently in 2005 the Village People's lawyers refused permission for "YMCA" to be used in a documentary called "Gay Sex in the 70s" as they didn't want the group to be thought of as gay ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: 'Village People' Policeman in hospital From: beardedbruce Date: 08 Jul 08 - 04:31 PM ... It was the VP songs in Saturday Night Fever that threw me... IN THE NAVY Where can you find pleasure, search the world for treasure, learn science, technology? Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true on the land or on the sea? Where can you learn to fly, play in sports or skindive, study oceanography? Sign up for the big band or sit in the grand stand when your team and others meet. In the Navy, yes, you can sail the seven seas. In the Navy, yes, you can put your mind at ease. In the Navy, come on now people, make a stand. In the Navy, can't you see we need a hand. In the Navy, come on, protect the motherland. In the Navy, come on and join your fellow, man. In the Navy, come on, people, and make a stand. In the Navy, in the Navy. They want you! They want you! They want you as a new recruit! If you like adventure don't you wait to enter the recruiting office fast. Don't you hesitate, there is no need to wait; they're signing up new seamen fast. Maybe you are too young to join up today but don't you worry 'bout the thing for I'm sure there will be always the good Navy protecting the land and sea. They want you! They want you! They want you as a new recruit! ..But..but..but I'm afraid of water! ..hey..hey..look, men... I get seasick even watching it on the TV! They want You! - Oh my goodness! They want you! - What am I gonna do in a submarine? They want you! They want you! In the Navy. In the Navy... (fade out) |

Subject: BS: 'Village People' Policeman in hospital From: beardedbruce Date: 08 Jul 08 - 02:19 PM Original Village People policeman in hospital Tuesday, July 08, 2008 1:29:42 PM Former Village People lead singer Victor Willis is recovering from vocal cord surgery and has postponed his tour. Willis, the band's original policeman, is resting in a San Diego hospital after surgery Monday to remove nodules from his vocal cords, spokeswoman Linda Smith said. Willis sang lead and co-wrote lyrics to such Village People hits as "Y-M-C-A" and "Macho Man." He developed hoarseness after several 2007 performances, forcing him to cancel European and Canadian concert dates this year. He's expected to recover and reschedule the tour dates. Willis left the group in 1980. In 2006, San Francisco police found cocaine in his car; he pleaded no contest to drug possession and served three years' probation. |
