Subject: RE: Can you help me identify this melody? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 02 Aug 08 - 06:09 PM I don't recognise the bit you're referring to from the description above, but is the "Captain Andy" chorus (sung by the entire company) the one that begins: Cotton Blossom, Cotton Blossom Captain Andy's floating show Thrills and laughter Concert after Everyone is sure to go I may be missing out some bits - I think there's also a finale line about "...so get your girl and go". Would love to have more info to go on - I'm curious now! Not sure what the above song is called - maybe "Cotton Blossom" (the name of the boat)? |

Subject: RE: Can you help me identify this melody? From: katlaughing Date: 02 Aug 08 - 04:14 PM The whole show is on YOUTUBE in 18 segments. I don't remember that particular part; if you find it, it might be easier for someone to identify it. Good luck and welcome to the Mudcat! |

Subject: Can you help me identify this "old Bohemian air"? From: GUEST,kaxtell at gmail dot com Date: 02 Aug 08 - 04:09 PM Hello, I am trying to find a title for a melody that I have been told is "an old Bohemian air." I have no lyrics that might help, unfortunately. The melody is a march (2/4 time). Here are the pitches/rhythms in the key of A-flat for the first four bars: C (quarter) C (dotted-8th) C (16th)| C (dotted-quarter) B-flat (eighth)| A-flat B-flat C D-flat (all eighths)| C B-flat (both quarters) The next four bars repeat the first four, beginning on D-flat, and then there are 8 more bars after this for a total of 16. If it would help for me to provide the conclusion, let me know and I'll do so. (If anyone happens to know the musical Show Boat, by Jerome Kern, this is the music that is used for the entrance of the band and Captain Andy just prior to the chorus of "Captain Andy." THANK YOU for your time!!!!!!!!! |
