I'd paraphrase a comment that Peace made up above:

They said it couldn't happen in Germany, either. It did.

to:

They said is wasn't happening in Germany either; when it WAS.

John

I don't know any other Barry Finns' guest & I don't know about any "Black Jack Fame" but as a kid my step father, being a bookie taught me many card games, who's asking & why? I do have a poor memory, refresh me.

"if ya think this is all a fairy tale"

you might want to look up the US demands on racism for other countries under I.T.A.R.

One way to win an election... ...lock up voters who would swing the other way. Not that crazy; our own former Mayor Drapeau used similar tactics. Once he had the cops raid the opposition headquarters and destroy all their campaign literature as "terrorist propaganda".

Neil D - I'm afraid they've been sending American dissidents back lately.

cheers everyone & keep on smilin'

I hope it's all conspiracy stuff, but I don't see too many different ways to interpret the data.

Friends of Liberty - FEMA CONCENTRATION CAMPS: Locations and ...

Worth a google even if only to see which Executive Orders are associated with the Bush administration--and I wonder how long it will take President Obama to get rid of those orders.

Readiness Exercise 1984. For short, Rex 84.

From Wikipedia--article entitled Rex 84:

"According to scholar Diana Reynolds:

The Rex-84 Alpha Explan (Readiness Exercise 1984, Exercise Plan; otherwise known as a continuity of government plan), indicates that FEMA in association with 34 other federal civil departments and agencies conducted a civil readiness exercise during April 5-13, 1984. It was conducted in coordination and simultaneously with a Joint Chiefs exercise, Night Train 84, a worldwide military command post exercise (including Continental U.S. Forces or CONUS) based on multi-emergency scenarios operating both abroad and at home. In the combined exercise, Rex-84 Bravo, FEMA and DOD led the other federal agencies and departments, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Secret Service, the Treasury, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Veterans Administration through a gaming exercise to test military assistance in civil defense.

The exercise anticipated civil disturbances, major demonstrations and strikes that would affect continuity of government and/or resource mobilization. To fight subversive activities, there was authorization for the military to implement government ordered movements of civilian populations at state and regional levels, the arrest of certain unidentified segments of the population, and the imposition of martial rule. [3] "

I don't have any trouble buying into the supposition that they've turned old military bases into concentration camps, but who's at the helm. People like George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan are too stupid to put together something like this, so who's calling the shots?

There were many concentration camps--camps that were old military bases--being refurbished a few years back. Figure that was bandied around the 'net at that time was enough room to contain about 500,000-750,000 people. I saw the number of people ON the blacklist and immediately thought of that.

Just another straw in the wind.

When I posted on Mudcat a few years back asking if anyone had come across it, I was greeted with ridicule by some people who should have had the foresight to think ahead. I hope they are thinking ahead now. With the various Ececutive Orders instituted by that maniac in Washington, the USA is 'that far' apart from being a police state. All's ity would take is Bush to cause the orders to go into effect and what civil rights you DO have will be gone in a finger snap.

They said it couldn't happen in Germany, either. It did.

"McCarthyism never really died."

Yeah, I agree with that. The players and objectives have changed, but the procedure is still the same.

The "war on terror" is a complete propaganda device. There are criminals that blow up
people in the name of religion or politics but you are more likely to get hurt or killed in a car accident. Maybe there should be a "war on cars". Criminals can be apprehended by
police. You don't have to invade foreign countries to eliminate them.

Of course the "blacklist" is a way of suppressing free speech. If you protested in China,
you could go to jail or have your kidneys removed. (Apparently the US likes to do business with dictators). In China, they don't have "free speech" zones. In the US, protesters are made to stand in these zones so they won't be heard by the public or news media. Apparently the US is learning all kinds of surveillance techniques from the Chinese such as how to suppress free speech effectively.

McCarthyism never really died.

Senator Ted Kennedy was refused boarding on an airliner cause he was on the list & even after id'ing himself still wasn't allowed on. It took him a lot of time & energy to clear it up. So what's it gonna take a poor pilot or passanger or you or me?

Osama must be overjoyed with how we've reacted & paid for his one attack.

Complete fuck ups

Barry

Over one million names! How in the world have we survived with so many terrorists running around?!

The ACLU drew its 1 million figure from an October report by congressional auditors, who put the number of names on the list at more than 750,000, with about 20,000 names being added each month.

"This list is not only a bureaucratic nightmare that has captured millions of people in its web, but it diverts our security resources, so it actually makes us less safe," said Barry Steinhardt, director of the ACLU's technology program.

CNN story here

Here's a story about a pilot who may lose his job because he's possibly on the governments suspected terrorist list. He can't even get a conformation that he's on the list yet his employer is about to terminate him. Is Joe McCarthy alive and well?
