Oh drat, that Morris sounds good. And I will be back in Kent on that date. Or probably. Maybe I can fiddle around with things.

Thank you very much for the extra info. Minchinhampton tonight.

Penny

If you want to find singing venues in the area, have a look at Mr Red's midwest website at
http://www.users.waitrose.com/~cresby/. All the clubs are worth trying. If you like unaccompanied traditional singing, check out the Queen Victoria in Stroud - small but talented singaround. Dursley, Cheltenham and Minchinhampton are all welcoming venues. Folk at Frampton has an eclectic mix of regulars of all styles. The Sharpness singaround has very keen performers. In short, ring around and good luck. BTW, if you can make your way to the Black Horse, Cranham. on the evening of Saturday, 13 Sept, you will have a good evening of Morris with a Spanish guest dance team from Catalonia. We will end up with a sing song and you will be welocme to give us a song or two if you want.

Good luck

I realise that I sounded as if I wanted to go in and perform straight away, which wasn't it at all, but I didn't feel welcomed. I would have liked the opportunity to be there for me to sing at some time in the future when I got to know the place and people. There was little fraternising in the break, though, so I didn't really get to know people at all well.

Actually, I think I was looking for personal recommendations, but I suppose that would be invidious if they are all really good.

I wouldn't want to drive miles to find somewhere like a club I went to elsewhere where I had to pass an interrogation on entry.

What clubs have you been to?   My college club about 30 years ago. NUT do's more recently.

What groups played there?   I can't remember, it was about 30 years ago.

But they might still be playing. I have been doing other things and not keeping tabs. It was the 60's, I don't remember the 60's. I used to sing there, and someone recently commented that he remembered me doing so and complimented me on it.

We only have floor singers we know, except in August. Pity, I'm away in August. (The notice in the public library said floor singers welcome - didn't refer to that.)

They did have very very good visiting singers, and very skilled instrumentalists from their own ranks. Also parents from the school I taught at in the audience. Not much audience participation. I stopped going when we were Ofstedded the first time and didn't feel like going back after.

Just go the website http://www.glosfolk.org.uk/ and look at news. Also contact the secretary Peter Cripps on peter@petercripps.co.uk,or phone on 01452 780401. That should tell you all you want to know.

I'm off from Kent to Cirencester for the next week or so, doing estate winding up, and will be missing my visit to the Fox and Hounds. Any suggestions as to places I could go for some music over the period?
