Subject: RE: Tech: Real Player 11 From: GUEST,DWR Date: 14 Sep 08 - 06:20 PM I should have mentioned that on the rare occasion that I try to play a Real Audio file that I also use Jet Audio. It's pretty much trouble free and does some files that others seem unable to handle. VLC is a good versatile player too, but I never have tried it on RA. It works well with a number of video codecs that some players seem to have missed. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Real Player 11 From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 14 Sep 08 - 04:44 PM Bill D, I use high security settings and I suspect that what you say about it setting cookies is at least part of my problem. In any case I got issue 10.0 running fine. I simply won't allow it to update. Thanks to all! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Real Player 11 From: Bill D Date: 14 Sep 08 - 04:27 PM BTW...if you DO like something about a particular Real Player, and you can get it to work, there are ways to keep it from doing some of the sneaky things it does...but this involves monitoring attempts to set cookies, call home, install upgrades...etc... It can be done, but it is easier to just use something else. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Real Player 11 From: Bill D Date: 14 Sep 08 - 04:23 PM alternatives to Real Player They work! There are several.... I use Jet Audio, SMplayer, and sometimes Media Player Classic....others swear by Real Alternative. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Real Player 11 From: GUEST,DWR Date: 14 Sep 08 - 03:11 PM I have the easiest solution of all. I do not have real player on any of my machines and haven't used it in probably two years. Anyone still using rp to encode music just doesn't "get it" and I just make do without them. |

Subject: Tech: Real Player 11 From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 13 Sep 08 - 09:11 PM A few days ago I clicked on a Real Player update (version 11) I am running Windows XP on my desktop. My box would not finish the installation, but kept failing half way through. However it overwrote or deleted my old version. (probably 10) My solution was to download and re-install the older version but that was not so easy because Real wanted to send me the new one. Eventually I found a site by Google that would allow me to download version 10. I am up and running ok but I wonder if others have had similar problems or is it just me? The new software is supposed to run on XP but it won't for me. In any case you may want to back up your old version before you try to download this. Sandy |
