What caused this brigantine (not a "ship or boat") to sink certainly is unclear from what I've been able to read in this thread and from the links provided.

I suppose it will take some time to sort everything out.

It certainly is a shame to lose such a beautiful brigantine but at least there were no lives lost.

Looks like it's fairly close inshore so it might not be too deep. The continental shelf, I think, is pretty narrow in Biscay though (which is what makes it rough. Well, that and being a lee shore to 3000M of ocean).

Jolly expensive and difficult business though, salvaging ships, notwithstanding the Mary Ellen Carter.

perhaps they can bring it back to the surface like the VASA ship,
however that one sank in a much more shallow harbor...too bad..

Oh how sad; I went aboard this beautiful ship when it was at anchor in Baltimore Harbour, West Cork some years ago.
