Sounds interesting, Carol. Wish I could see it. :)

Thanks for posting it along with the Snopes source.

It looks to me like the dolphins are creating a current by pushing water with their heads at first, and the rings travel on that for a while. After a bit, the forward momentum of the rings seems to slow down until the dolphin pushes the water again and makes a smaller ring out of the bigger ones.

Carol, I withdraw MOST of my skeptical comments. I still have a hard time understanding how the bubble rings are traveling for extended distances horizontally.

I never doubted for a minute... I can't imagine how anyone would fake that trick. The scientists' best guess as to how they do it is probably pretty close.
I think that dolphins are wonderful for allow us to see it, when the best WE can do is blow smoke rings..

Snopes says it's real. That's where I found the video in the first place.

Very pretty, but I doubt that it's real. bubbles don't form into skinny little rings and travel horizontally for entended periods of time like a smoke ring.IMHO At the very least the ring would break into individual bubble and head for the surface. Bubbles moving ahead of the "emitting" dolphin would be much like a flag pointing into a very brisk wind, since water has several hundred times the density of air.
On the other hand, I agree about the caging of these intelligent creatures for our amusement. If the dolphins had an exit, could come and go, and THEN came back to perform, that would be a reason to celebrate all those fun tricks

I hate that those dolphins are being held in captivity. I don't approve of that at all. But it's cool for people to be able to see evidence of their intelligence and creativity. Hopefully if enough people understand how intelligent they are, people will decide it's not right to keep dolphins in captivity any longer.
