For me, the previous versions of Acrobat used to be very slow at loading pdfs inside the browser - I'd always download the files and open them locally. But since version 7 they seem to load a lot faster inside the browser (mind you, I still prefer to download large files and open them locally!).

yes, pdf's have always been bloatware.

but oddly enough - on my dial-up computer at home I can download pdf's much faster then jpg's. I cannot "load" them into the browser faster - but for whatever reason if I "save target as" a pdf will download in about 1/4 the time of the same size jpg file.

On the other hand - the jpg's load into my browser almost 10 times faster.

Back to normal now too.

Joe I just downloaded the cover of a song I'd downloaded before they changed the site and the new file is about 4 times the size of the previous one. Assuming that a) I didn't modify the file after I saved it before and b) my browser is saving the files the same way (should be!) then it suggests they've altered them on the site, maybe to lower compression.

The pdf is a nice improvement for downloading the song in one go. Though note - I just downloaded a 3-page song as 3 single jpegs and as a pdf of the whole song. The 3 jpegs totalled about 1Mb, the pdf over 6Mb. So if you're on a slow connection you might prefer to save the individual images.

Same experience as Joe. It was fine up until a few days ago when I was last there. Now (09:40BST 23rd) my links to the index and to the advanced search are both having problems.

Well, Kat, this link worked for me this afternoon, but nothing is working for me this evening.
By the way, the Levy site has been nicely redesigned. I swear the images are of a higher resolution than they were before, but maybe my memory is deceiving me.

Well, here we are eight years later and this database seems to have disappeared from the internet. Every link I've tried, from Mudcat and google turns up with an unknown, can't load page report.

Anyone know what has happened to this wonderful sheet music index online?

I wasn't out there yesterday, but I had to keep reloading the pages today to get anywhere. woiuld pick up a few percentages each time I refreshed the page.

I've been trying to get the Lester Levy link of old sheet music to load for the past two days and it goes really slow, then just bogs down. has anyone else had this problem?
