Subject: RE: Can you digg it? From: katlaughing Date: 15 Nov 08 - 09:59 PM I've heard of all three, but wasn't sure what any of them were until I kind of figured out what Digg was. Hadn't looked up the others, yet, so thanks for the info. I will probably look into a Digg button for my website when I get more content up. |

Subject: RE: Can you digg it? From: Azizi Date: 15 Nov 08 - 05:08 PM Thanks, Mr. or Ms. Moderator for your speedy delivery of this thread to its rightful place below the line. ** And since we can still think musically, even in the BS section, I want to "note" that that name Buzz reminds me of this song from the 1973 play "Jesus Christ Superstar": Apostles- What's the buzz? Tell me what's a-happening. (Repeat 8 times) Jesus- Why should you want to know? Don't you mind about the future? Don't you try to think ahead? Save tomorrow for tomorrow; Think about today instead. Apostles- What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening. (Repeat many times) Jesus- I could give you facts and figures. Even give you plans and forecasts. Even tell you where I'm going..." -snip- Those lyrics certainly fit the mission of an internet rating system...except that further along the words say: Jesus- Why should you want to know? Why are you obsessed with fighting Times and fates you can't defy? If you knew the path we're riding, You'd understand it less than I. http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/jesuschristsuperstar/whatsthebuzz.htm ** Here's a link to a Youtube video of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLFAyw-5Rp8 Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) What's The Buzz/Strange Thing Mystifying |

Subject: RE: Can you digg it? From: Azizi Date: 15 Nov 08 - 04:54 PM Here's comparable information about Buzz: "The best of the best - chosen by people like you. The buzz can be about anything - a great story on a major news site, an extraordinary bit from an obscure site, an intriguing video, or a fantastic blog that shouldn't be missed. Instead of editors, people like you determine the top-rated stories. How it works. First, we determine the most popular topics that people are searching for on Yahoo!. Then, we showcase the most popular stories within those topics, based on activities like voting and emailing stories to friends. Stories with most Buzz may be published on the Yahoo! home page - you can impact what millions will see on Yahoo!. Subject: RE: Can you digg it? From: Azizi Date: 15 Nov 08 - 04:51 PM Though I guess this thread could be a tech subject, I meant to put it in the BS section. I guess if I were rating that first post, it wouldn't get a high rating. Sorry 'bout that. |

Subject: Can you digg it? From: Azizi Date: 15 Nov 08 - 04:49 PM Digg it... It's more than a slang term. Now it's a particular kind of rating system for specific Internet content. Who knew? I'm not sure if this subject has been the focus of any other Mudcat thread, though I recall seeing a comment about another Internet rating system called "Buzz" in another recent Mudcat thread whose title I don't recall. I'm not sure when these systems and others like them started. I just noticed them about six months or so ago, and haven't ever used any of them yet. Here's a quote from Digg's overview page that explains what it's all about: "What is Digg? Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won't find editors at Digg — we're here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we're changing the way people consume information online. How do we do this? Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images — is submitted by our community (that would be you). Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see. And it doesn't stop there. Because Digg is all about sharing and discovery, there's a conversation that happens around the content. We're here to promote that conversation and provide tools for our community to discuss the topics that they're passionate about. By looking at information through the lens of the collective community on Digg, you'll always find something interesting and unique. We're committed to giving every piece of content on the web an equal shot at being the next big thing." http://digg.com/about/ I'm curious if anyone here has used Digg or Buzz or any of the other rating systems, and if you think that these systems are of any value. {Well, I suppose if you've used one of them, that in and of itself means that you considered it to be of some value}. But maybe not... :o) |
