ye gods This doesn't bode well. Anyone, everyone, knows that no administration can suit us all, all the time. But conclusions before an administration has actually begun is premature in a most juvenile way.

As long as Barack Obama chooses people on the basis of thinking power as evidenced by their own record - even if there is an occasional bobble - and surrounds himself with them in his administration we are way ahead of where we currently are. It will be a delicate feat to negotiate a path that all can traverse but Obama has shown clearly that if anyone can do it, he can.

I'd say the better expression is, "Obama is rolling!"

It seems just slightly premature to pronounce judgment on Obama as being "rolled", "no change" etc. before he takes office.

Keeping in mind, of course, that certain people on Mudcat always need something to whine about---or they can't sleep.

While the rest of us think things are actually not that bad at this point--and we have no problem sleeping--not to mention that our blood pressure is probably lower than that of the whiners.

There is no evidence to the notion that "that is all the change you were looking for".

Nothing has been removed from the list of interesting and inspiring goals the Obama campaign articulated.

IT should be obvious that the dense entangled atmosphere of imp[lementation are going to be a very different amphitheater than the scintillating auditoriums of the campaign; but let us suspend judgements until we see how it rolls out in practice. He hasn't even assembled his team yet.

The fact that someone learned his trade during the Clinton years is no evidence that that particular person will be interested in or able to operate on Clintonian principles, whatever they are. Mister Obama has a little more grit to his backbone than that, I am quite sure.

They may throw swings at him, but he ain't rolled yet by good measure. Just because he has a lean and thoughtful look is no reason to misunderestimate him.

Forgive me, but how could we not have changed administrations this year, what with the term limits for president? If that was all the change you were looking for, it doesn't appear your standards for America's future are terribly high.

As to "experienced Democrats", I'm guessing you weren't cheering for "more Clinton, more Clinton" last May?

Yeah, plus Joe Lieberman. This guy Obama is being rolled pretty quick.

Glenn Greenwald in slate.com has a good piece (as usual) on the absurd notion, symbolized by Lieberman, that what is now needed in bipartisanship (he points out that Congress has hardly existed for the last eight years, because the Democrats have done everything Bush and the Republicans asked for, they couldn't have been more bipartisan, as long as bipartisan means whatever the Republicans want).

Peter T.

I have no problem with some Clinton administrators being in the Obama Administration.

Whatever his faults, Bill Clinton is a bright man who wanted bright people around him.

Just take a look at the people that Dubya Bush chose if you want to see the contrast.

This guy has been 'round Washington, D.C. along time and he is a keeper... Ya'll gonna love him... He is intellegent, thoughtfull, and above all, honest... We ain't had an honest AG is a long, long, time...

Don't look for him to go beatin' up Bushites, though, some of the more worst cases will certainly get some attention...

Change for me meant change from the Bush - Cheney administration.

I don't know why people are dissing Obama because of relying on other experienced Democrats.

The story has been leaked by a "senior Democrat" according to Reuters, not announced by the Obama transition team, as I understand it. So this story, which may end up being true, is as solid as Clinton for State right now.

Either way, this is depressing news, and yet more evidence of a Clinton administration rerun.

Change? Not so much. Hard to get excited with these picks, if they indeed are the people Obama will ultimately select.

He still needs to be vetted, but here is the first choice for Attorney General:

(CNN) –Sources tell CNN's Ed Henry and John King Barack Obama has chosen Eric Holder as his nominee for Attorney General.

Holder has accepted the position but must still undergo a vetting process by the Obama transition team.

If confirmed, Holder will become the first African-American to hold the position.

He served as deputy attorney general under Bill Clinton

Newsweek first reported the story.
