Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2009 from Sydney From: Geoff the Duck Date: 31 Dec 08 - 07:46 PM And a Happy New Year from Geoffrey! We watched a load of gunpowder exploding on the banks of the river Thames. Shame we can't have the same amount of powder in the Houses of Parliament when the Bastards are there... Quack! GtD. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy 2009 from Sydney From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 Dec 08 - 09:14 AM Greetings to you too, from the place where time really starts! A little something I found which sums up a lot of what this 'below the line' stuff is about... The Old Year by JOHN CLARE The Old Year's gone away To nothingness and night: We cannot find him all the day Nor hear him in the night: He left no footstep, mark or place In either shade or sun: The last year he'd a neighbour's face, In this he's known by none. All nothing everywhere: Mists we on mornings see Have more of substance when they're here And more of form than he. He was a friend by every fire, In every cot and hall— A guest to every heart's desire, And now he's nought at all. Old papers thrown away, Old garments cast aside, The talk of yesterday, Are things identified; But time once torn away No voices can recall: The eve of New Year's Day Left the Old Year lost to all. Subject: BS: Happy 2009 from Sydney From: freda underhill Date: 31 Dec 08 - 08:31 AM Happy New year from Sydney Australia! Above is a link to photos of fireworks on Sydney Harbour, where we have just celebrated the new year. A couple of weeks ago, a friend gave me a small talisman, which I keep in my wallet. It has a dove on one side, and the word "hope" on the other. We are starting a new year with wars, a global recession, and climate change. Hope and the kindness of friends will help us all through a tough year. good luck and best wishes to you all, freda 1.1.2009 |
