Subject: RE: BS: Obama's first proclamation From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 23 Jan 09 - 11:57 AM It probably should have said, ". . . proclaim January 20, 2009, from approximately 2:00 p.m. EST until midnight, a National half=Day of Renewal and Reconciliation" . . . Before he was sworn in he couldn't presidentially proclaim anything for that first part of the day. I understand the motivation to make it January 20 because of the auspicious events of around noon of that day, but that cut things short. Maybe that's why so little press attention. Subject: BS: Obama's first proclamation From: Alice Date: 23 Jan 09 - 11:48 AM On inauguration day, Obama created this proclamation, the full text at http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/a_national_day_of_renewal_and_reconciliation/ He quoted Lincoln in the beginning of the proclamation and ended with: NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century. (I didn't hear anything about this proclamation in the news. I knew there was a lot of volunteer help being organized around the inauguration. I only found out when checking into what is on the whitehouse.gov page today. Did anyone else hear about it?) |
