Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: kendall Date: 23 Feb 09 - 07:47 PM Lets adopt the Myan calendar. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 23 Feb 09 - 06:22 PM Yes, but only if the 1st is decided to be a Sunday. If the 1st is a Monday...no Friday the 13th. Problem solved. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: Rapparee Date: 23 Feb 09 - 06:02 PM Yes, but Friday the 13th would always fall on Friday. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 23 Feb 09 - 05:51 PM That is not a good idea. Thirteen is an unlucky number. Actually, that doesn't work as well as it would seem to. An astronomer friend of mine once tried to explain the math, etc. to me. If I had understood, maybe I coulda been a astronomer. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: Rapparee Date: 23 Feb 09 - 05:43 PM Why not? They used Julius Caesar's for years and years and years and years. I like the proposal to have 13 months of 28 days each, and every four years add one day extra which isn't reflected in the calendar. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: kendall Date: 23 Feb 09 - 04:52 PM But there was when it happened. As far as that goes, there is no perfect calendar no matter how much they screw with it. The Myan calendar is closer to perfect than ours but we can't use a non Christian calendar now can we? |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: Rapparee Date: 23 Feb 09 - 02:37 PM Kendall, because of those eleven days there WAS no February 22, 1732. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: kendall Date: 23 Feb 09 - 01:35 PM Doesn't really matter what happened 20 years later. He was born on the 22 of February 1732. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: Rapparee Date: 23 Feb 09 - 12:32 PM Of course he did. I remember talking to him about it and he said, "Sure it's the eleventh! All us great people have that for a birthday! Give us back our eleven days, you imperialist time-robbers!" |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: DMcG Date: 23 Feb 09 - 11:26 AM I have no evidence either way, but if he was told for twenty years that his birthday was 11th Feb pre 1752, I'd be prepared to place a small wager he also considered it to be on the 11th post 1752. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 23 Feb 09 - 11:01 AM Normally we would be celebrating Papa's birthday today, but our government decided he wasn't worthy of his own holiday...so we celebrated an inclusive Presidents Day last week. Happy B/D George Washington....today. Kendall, when Washington was born in 1732, the colonies (indeed the whole British Empire) were using the Julian Calander...a not so accurate measure of cosmic time. In 1752, September, the somewhat more accurate Gregorian Calender was instituted so that one went to bed on Sept. 2, and work up on Sept. 12. All dates have been adjusted for those 'lost' days. Were we still using Julie's measure you'd be correct-a-mundo, GW's day would be Feb. 11. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: kendall Date: 23 Feb 09 - 06:04 AM Depends on the calendar you use. he was born on February 22nd.1732 as I recall. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: Rapparee Date: 22 Feb 09 - 09:27 PM Lots of people opposed him: Gage, Burgoyne, Cornwallis.... Besides, he was really born on February 11, the same as Tom Edison and me. |

Subject: BS: Happy birthday George Washington From: kendall Date: 22 Feb 09 - 08:36 PM George Washington. The only president who ran unopposed. |
