I didn't do anymore than read the headlines regarding Rhianna and Chris Brown. (I confess I had never heard of either of them before the headlines regarding the assault charges.) But it is disturbing to hear of the results of that Boston survey.

That's a fairly broad brush you are wielding, MAG. They may well be be cokeheads but we don't know that, do we?   Certainly it is not true in most cases of partner abuse.

Pardon me if I state that --

and I do believe partner abuse is a serious issue --

but when we are talking about celebs like this,

we are talking COKE PYSCHOSIS.

Everyone whose partner does coke needs to know that sooner or later they have one of these paranoid episodes where they lash out at the nearest and dearest who are the closest targets. I know more than one woman beaten into hospital by a boyfriend under these circumstances.

Whitney Houston took back the guy who beat an already unconscious man into a bloody pulp.

I was once in a public service job in Chicago, at a very busy interesction in Lincoln Park, and I can tell you I witnessed not just one or two instances of this.

Both Dr. Phil and the Oprah Winfrey shows devoted a day last week to the subject. Since so many teens watch those shows, there should now be a lot more informed and aware youngsters out there.

Big teen violence work being done by women's shelter folks-- has been for a long time. Good thing to make kids aware of.

Everyone has an obligation to leave the person who hits them. They also have an obligation to leave if they are the hitter, or if they are the verbal abuser. There is this sick and sorry dance going on and both men and women are physically and verbally abused. It is sad when there is economic dependence and especially where there are children, but there are neither in this case...oh but I love him...Each case is different and each party has to accept responsibility for whatever part they played, if any, and get out if there is abuse. Easier said than done usually, but here there are no economic considerations at all. We also have to struggle against an automatic Men Bad Women Good assumption in all situations. mg

My step daughter apparently nearly laid out a 16 stone karate black belt once - but I gather he did not hit back.

This is scary stuff...not as scary as war or disease, perhaps, but scary none-the-less...a survey of Boston teens shows they believe that singer Rihanna is to blame for being beat up by Chris Brown. Is the faculty to reason well, and to place blame where it really belongs becoming a lost ability? Where do these kids get their values?

Here's a conversation starter: Nearly half of the 200 Boston teenagers interviewed for an informal poll said pop star Rihanna was responsible for the beating she allegedly took at the hands of her boyfriend, fellow music star Chris Brown, in February.
        
Of those questioned, ages 12 to 19, 71 percent said that arguing was a normal part of a relationship; 44 percent said fighting was a routine occurrence.

The results of the survey, conducted by the Boston Public Health Commission across the city and equally among boys and girls, are startling for local health workers who see a generation of youths who seem to have grown accustomed, even insensitive, to domestic violence.
