Subject: BS: Earth at Night From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Dec 00 - 06:29 PM Take a look at this amazing composite photo from NASA, called "Earth at Night." Sort of puts things in perspective, don't it? I've only just discovered the NASA web site. I was all set to start a new thread, but I noticed it has already been mentioned here, so I just refreshed this old thread. NASA has an Astronomy Picture of the Day as well as an Archive going back to 1995. If you find any more cool pictures, post a link to them here. |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: bbc Date: 18 Jul 99 - 11:32 PM Boy, I'm finding out the hard way that you can't go away for the weekend! Duane posted just before we left for Maine & here's catspaw all worried! (Do you really think it's serious enough that he needs a tiple? I mean, I could understand outpatient or even a few weeks/months at the Center, but a tiple??? And getting Rick involved on another thread!). Here I am, trying to establish myself as a person of integrity & Duane is going public w/ mirrors & flatulence. Well, I've already said what a great guy he is, so I guess I'll just repeat what the French say, "Each to his own taste!" & smile in a Mona Lisa style. bbc (smiling in NY) |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: bob schwarer Date: 18 Jul 99 - 09:54 AM Hey Margarita, that search site(for ETs) is: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu I've been running it about a month now. If anyone has an extra computer & can spare the electricity go for it and give the ET search a hand. I let it run whenever my computer is on. It slows things down a little, but not bad. You can always select the option to run it only when the CPU is idle. Yes, I hear a lot that Bob Schwarer is BS. Bob S. |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: WyoWoman Date: 17 Jul 99 - 12:44 PM Well, since this is totally un-musically related BS, I will just jump in with my own question -- if I can get Duane to get off the mirror for a minute: I live out in the country, under the bright, bright Wyoming sky, and I've decided to get myself my very own telescope in a few weeks. I'm a complete beginner, but am very interested. We have a little planetarium here and I read the "Night Skies" column we have in the newspaper. I've also seen the NORTHERN LIGHTS several times since moving up here -- and they're so amazing. Just amazing! So, any suggestions out there for a cheap, yet good, beginner's telescope? WW |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: Lonesome EJ Date: 17 Jul 99 - 01:31 AM Hey, whoa up there, Catspaw! I'd like to just say that the use of mirrors is an outstanding tradition among practitioners of the "astral art". How else are you going to discover what's going on on the Dark Side of the Moon? Duane, just keep yer telescope extended and yer eyes on the stars, Ol Buddy. LEJ |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Jul 99 - 10:16 PM .........bbc?..........bbc?........Are you there? I know you're probably real upset over this, but Duane can be helped! I think we've found transport to the Center for him and I'm workin' on getting him his own tiple. Please come forward with your emotions...we're here to help. catspaw |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Jul 99 - 01:00 AM You do it with mirrors? Obviously I've been mistaken by doing it with women all these years. I can see why you didn't post any of this on the sexual debate threads. Then again I can understand as I'm an open minded kinda guy! It's important to have a positive self-image to be your best sexually, and what better partner could you get. I was told to try an experiment with a mirror once that might be related. They say that all we ever really see in a mirror is our face, that we don't see the whole "SELF." So you take a paper bag and cut out 2 eyeholes, remove all your clothing (be sure the house is empty and the doors are locked), enter the bathroom and check it out. My reaction was, "Whoever you are there Buddy, put your clothes on and get the hell outa' here." So you just go for it with the mirrors there Duane and I'll be right here rootin' for you.
catspaw PSSSSSTTT...Hey Barb, you there? SSHHHHSS...Keep quiet, I don't want Duane to here. I think you gotta' problem and I wanted to say I can get you a bed at the Neil Young Center for him at major discount. How long has he been on this mirror thing? I know it's not easy to talk about, but you should have spoken up!---Spaw |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: Duane D. Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:22 AM I could say very carefully or some other lame retort. Just remember, astronomers do it with mirrors. It's another passion when I'm not making music. Duane. |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:07 AM Yeah, I saw your picture with the 'scope Duane and I meant to ask, how do you string it? catspaw |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: Duane D. Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:03 AM Thanks for the NASA link. They even have an image there of my favorite deep space object, M13, Aug. 19, 1998. As usual, the image quality is exceptional. I didn't have this site in my astronomy links. I've spent many hours over the past 10+ years mesmerized by M13 viewed through my 'scope. |

Neat site, I too, bookmarked it for future browsing. (If I ever find enough time to browse that is) How many pages of bookmarks can one have before you max out? |

Subject: RE: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Jul 99 - 11:07 PM Now that Kat the Rocket Scientist is finished, I'll throw in my 2 cents............ ALL the NASA sites are a kick to me. They have a ton of info and funstuff too. The entire report of the Apollo One fire is there as well as an abridged version. History, people, equipment...past/present/future. It's one of my favorite sites on the web. catspaw |

Subject: Fun Site(Kinda BS) From: bob schwarer Date: 14 Jul 99 - 01:32 PM If you are interested in tracking satellites, try this NASA Site. You can check for times that satellites will be visible in your areas, and even put a tracking map on your desktop. Takes a bit of messing with, but gets the job done. Bob S. |
