That is a cat who sees prey approaching - namely feet in fuzzy socks. Note the downward angle of the fixed and lethal stare.

I thought the 'fall down go boom' was a Tweetie Pie thing - but it seems to be predated in an Abbot & Costello movie "Jack and the Beanstalk" - of course :-)
