I confess I play the lottery, but only one ticket per drawing. Otherwise I think it could get out of control (addictive personality and all).

I do agree that way too many people gamble away more than they can afford.

Our state lotto ads have the 1-800 number written and announced at the end of each ad. I hope it helps.

The same in Canada.
Some people can afford to go to Las Vegas, Macao or Monaco, others stay at home and spend on lotteries.
There are addicts, but if not lotteries, then the bangtails, college football, etc. They can be stopped only by taking their freedom away from them.

If there is one pet peeve I have lately is the non stop ads on TV to play the state lottery. When I stop into the local gas station I see elderly people that I know do not have the money dropping 20s on lottery tickets , scratch offs, the pick 6 etc. As the state of NY gets broker and broker I guess they feel that addicting folks to their legal gambling is the way to pay the bills. Now I have no issue with how people choose to spend their money. I have bought lottery tickets myself. My point is this, it is the state pushing this, not the Vegas hotels. If they are going to push it to this extend I would like to see other TV ads about what happens to people that have problems with chronic gambling and what destruction it does to families.   How about and ad saying if you think you have a problem call ... 1-800 ect. You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning then hitting the big one. Have fun and buying a ticket, I have done that myself, it is the people that I see everyday that concerns me.

What are your thoughts.
