No matter... I like the vid... and the hoax is fairly well done. I understand it took a lot of hours to animate and get everything set just right.

And, I'll bet they smokin when they said, "Yeah... we could it."

I wondered about the quality of the vid, but I guess I just wanted to be fascinated... in a Blue Man Group kinda way.

Unfortunately this is another example that you can't always believe what you see on the internet. According to Snopes this is a hoax. The video is a computer animation, the machine does not exist.

As a warning, since watching these videos some functions on my computer are not working properly so I suspect that some malware may have been introduced with this hoax.

When I think of the calibration and computations involved... even just the calibration for an analysis to determine the signicicance of the effect of sphere spin in terms of flight drag... and, even then, how that may change in future given any wear upon the spheres... and... jeepers.

And, my biggest question would be, what were they smokin when they said, "Yeah... we could it."

Blurb... This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort
between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa.

Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft , Iowa ...Yes, farm equipment!

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but, as you can see, it was WELL worth the effort.

It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.
