Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Dec 09 - 02:38 PM My favorite keys are the keys to various churches that have been entrusted to me. When I drive up and down our diocese, it's great to know there's a warm, safe spot where I will be able to find anything I need. Or sleep there, etc. I call these keys my "overground railroad." ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: open mike Date: 02 Dec 09 - 02:00 AM 4 key rings full.. i almost had the AAA shop make me a car key copy today the kind that is plastic and looks like a credit card... but whenever i lock myself out of my vehicle the extra key like that is usually in my purse in the vehicle. i have one key ring for the vehicle. one for the r.v., and one for a room i rent, and one for the storage unit. i used to have some neat old ones made into ear rings... the r.v. i have came with different keys for every compartment, and door. my mechanic got a lock smith to change it so it just has a couple now. some keys were burned in the fire, but i have a bunch that i do not know what they go to. perhaps i should make a sculpture or wind chime? |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: Genie Date: 02 Dec 09 - 12:31 AM I "have" all 12 keys, I guess. How many do I "own?" Probably all of them, for singing, though mostly B, B flat, C, D, E flat, and D. For playing guitar? Mainly just (pattering for) G, C, D, and (sometimes) E. (Sorry.)* * not really |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: Janie Date: 01 Dec 09 - 11:01 PM Not near as many as when I was a married to a pack rat with 6 old cars and trucks, a rented storage building, a farm with a barn and outbuildings used for storage, and two post office boxes. Funny thing was, the house where we lived didn't have functional locks so when we would go away we would deadbolt the doors, leave a window unlocked, and crawl through it when we got home! And that's the truth! Now, for personal use, I have a house, shed and car key, with a spare for each stored in a key cache under a rock in the yard. I also work in two clinics and have a private practice, and each of those sites require 2 keys - one to enter the building, and one to enter my office. And I also have a key to my parent's house....somewhere. |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: Rowan Date: 01 Dec 09 - 10:46 PM My two hexagonal cases for concertinas have locks but only one had a key when it arrived at my place; the other now has a key that I found in a collection of antique keys that came my way because friends know I curate old stuff. Other types of (and more modern) cases have locks but I suspect the keys have been lost; they tended to have only about four variations anyway and were not worth keeping, let alone using. Keys that once were required but are now irrelevant I use as scrap metal. Work has involved more keys than I can carry so I keep all except the ones to enter the building and my office in my office; but I wouldn't say I "own" them. The rest are as minimal in number as I can organise and still operate the house and the car(s). Cheers, Rowan |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: ranger1 Date: 01 Dec 09 - 10:08 PM Oh, geez. Well, there are about eight copies of my car key (they all came with the car when I bought it), the key to the neighbor's house, the key to grandma's house, the key to the friont door of our building, the key to our apartment, the key to my storage unit, and then there are the nine keys on my work key ring. plus a bunch of random keys in a box that I can't remember what they go to. |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: Ebbie Date: 01 Dec 09 - 06:55 PM Since I no longer have a car and since I no longer manage apartments I have only 3: apartment, mailbox and outside lock. I do have a couple of padlocks complete with key in a drawer- got rid of everything else. I may be the only person in the world to carry my keys on a thingamajig that I have had since 1949. My family was leaving Oregon forever (Ha! I wss back in 7 years and my family was back within 10) and while we were waiting to board the train in Portland, my mother said that each of us could select something off the display rack as a souvenir. I chose a laminated red rose on a stalk that is printed with 'Portland, Oregon City of Roses'. It must be well made. It is more than 60 years old and there's not a crack in it. |

Subject: RE: BS: How many keys do you own? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Dec 09 - 05:45 PM Right now were having to keep an eye on six houses - our own house, our daughter's house, our son's house, a flat were involved in renting out, and the house of my 98 year old father-in-law. And that's just for a start - there are back doors, car keys, gate keys... Life gets too complicated. I wish I could just say "Open Sesame" And then there are all the passwords and so forth. |

Subject: BS: How many keys do you own? From: gnu Date: 01 Dec 09 - 03:59 PM Yes, another one of those threads. I have a 30mm key ring in my pocket that has so many keys on it, it's tough to get one off. I have a small size ziplock bag half full. Not one ID tag. I know some by sight. I have many that are similar but fit different similar locks.... some of these have the manufacturer's name on the key and on the lock but even then, 6 different locks which have two keys each, well, it gets to "*&^R%^**!!! One of the &*^$&*) KEYS HAS GOT TO FIT FER...!!!" I'd count them, but I'll just say shitload fer now. Oh, yeah. I do have a set of 8 medium size locks keyed the same and a set of 32 large size locks keyed the same. Yes, 32. I went to Princess Auto one day looking for keyed alike locks after having to cut a handle off sommat up at the camp to avoid the long drive home and back. Cost less to buy the damaged equipment and the locks than the price of the gas. |
