Subject: RE: BS: Frank Delaney's 'Tipperary' From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Dec 09 - 10:39 PM Well, there's Cahir Castle. but McGrath is right - all over Ireland, there are English manor houses and castles. Some were owned by Irish chieftains and converted by the English into more luxurious quarters. My favorite was Kylemore Castle (now Kylemore Abbey). -Joe- |

Subject: BS: Frank Delaney's 'Tipperary' From: michaelr Date: 01 Dec 09 - 08:10 PM I've just finished reading this wonderful novel. Is anyone here familiar with it - and perhaps with Tipperary itself? What intrigues me is the question of how much of the story might be based on actual events. Are there remains of a great Anglo-Irish mansion or castle at Tipperary? It's a great read, as is Delaney's earlier "Ireland". Cheers, Michael |
