Subject: RE: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: Big Mick Date: 29 Jul 99 - 11:42 AM Kat, me love, I am so sorry that I missed this thread. As you may be able to tell from the various times I am posting lately, my life is a little disoriented right now. Organizing is like that. You work at odd times. Del, first off, accept my belated wishes for a very happy birthday. It seems to me that one of the great ways to keep the woman who gave one life alive, is to make one's life a tribute to that person. You have a gift, music, which she taught you and encouraged in you. Dedicate your music to your Mom and she is never away from you. Teach it to young one's and she lives on through them. And when the young one's play it, and it touches your soul, then it is your mother's love that you are feeling. One need only an instrument to never be alone or without her again. And each year on your birthday, do a concert, even if only for the sun and the stars. Make the day a reunion with her through your music. I think you know that your Sis is a wonderful, caring person. Just in case you don't know, she is a bit stubborn too. LOL LMAO I say that with all love and affection. We love her here on the 'Cat, and we would love to have you join her and bet with us here. It is a lovely place where good friends are made, and sometimes those friendships are tempered in the flames of heated debate. But like good steel they come out stronger. And the occasional jello wrestling match takes the edge off as well. Happy birthday to you, and if I ever meet you you will have to endure a Big Mick hug, the first jar of the Guinness is on me, and the singin' will start almost immediately. Big Mick |

Subject: RE: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: katlaughing Date: 29 Jul 99 - 10:36 AM You guys are great! Thank you all so much for writing to my brother! 'Spaw....you out did yourself! By now, you should have that picture!!! Geez, esp. after that absolutely demanding email ya sent me!**BG** You words at the end made me cry & Del was really touched by them. He's been reading a lot about grief and mourning. He was really surprised when I handed him the printout of these messages. He said, "But they don't even know me and they sent me birthday wishes?" I said, "That's the kind of people they are. The best!!" MMario; I love your words: "Echoes last longer then the note itself." Beautiful..... Folk1234: naw, he won't be coming to Mudstock99, but we could still sing that song! Dave & Frank: thanks for the compliments! Yer checks are in the mail.:-) You, too, Bert! Rick: the thought of Peter making love to classical music? Would that be with a partner or the sheet music??? Jeri: great little poem and it DID have that great cream cheese frosting with little orange carrots made out of it. Bet, he called me after you called him. It was appreciated, I know, despite his mood! So glad you all were able to read backwards in the mirror, as instructed.LOL Thanks, again, kat |

Subject: RE: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: katlaughing Date: 28 Jul 99 - 07:00 PM To all Mudcatters who wished me Happy Birthday, today: I am very touched to be hearing from fellow musicians (though I am not in folk music.) As Kat told you this is my first B-day without my mom on the Earth plane, so it is somewhat poignant. She was, among other things, my first piano teacher and just before her passing, she once again, read me the "riot act" about promoting my musical "gift". Thanks, again, for the birthday greetings! Subject: RE: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: Jeri Date: 28 Jul 99 - 05:49 PM I tried to write a little poem, But didn't know how to end it It was smarmy anyway So I don't think I'll send it. Here's to you upon this day, You're kin of kin, and so, Here's another Happy Birthday wish, From someone you don't know! Alright, already - can we cut the cake now!? (I love carrot cake if it's got that cream cheese frosting on it!) Happy Birthday Del!!!! |

Subject: RE: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Jul 99 - 05:36 PM Well Del, I must tell you that these people (except bet) are really full of it. Just so you know, they couldn't possibly care less. However, my supposition is that, like me, they received an e-mail from Kat yesterday and being the good 'Catters that they are, knew what to do. First they printed out the e-mail and held it to a mirror. Then taking the first letter from odd numbered words and the second from the even, a sentence was created. Reading the sentence into a recorder and then playing it backward rendered this: "Dear 'Catters, If you will send a note to Del on his birthday, I will send you a picture of bet and I playing the violin and blowing up a possum's ass while in the nude....Katlaughing" I tell you this because I have serious doubts about whether of not said picture will actually be sent. Since you may know of a copy, scan that sucker and send it on!!! Now the fact that your big sis there has become one of my closest friends DOES NOT assure me that her promise will be kept......I mean she's creative and can come up with some plausible sounding excuse, like, "I lost the negative when I did the back flip into the banana jello after Rick whacked me with that trout," or "Mick and RiB ruined it when they splattered my only copy with marsmallow creme while singing Wagner in tutu's with metal mammaries," or "I left the negative in a tiple I was using at the Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed while Art and I were visiting Joe Offer." (Joe's there recovering from a massive guilt trip) I'm not surprised that Banj and Leej might fall for one of her tales, but not catspaw!!! Seed, Peter, and El Swanno are less easily duped, but...........Anyway, if you have a copy, remember it was Ol' Spaw who let the kat out of the bag, so to speak, AND I WANT THAT PICTURE!!!!! Oh yeah............HAPPY BIRTHDAY...........Now SOMEBODY needs to come through with that photo!

Subject: Kat's bro's birthday-he's missin' mom this yr From: katlaughing Date: 28 Jul 99 - 12:50 PM Hi, Fellow Mudders, I know you all don't know my brother, Del, except what I've posted about him and his classical music and songs. He's the oldest of us five. This is his first birthday without our mom and he's really missing her. We're having him over for taco salad and carrot cake tonight. If any of you feel like it, I will print out any b-day greetings and give them to him. He is responsible, in a large way, for my early music training. I've got an ear that is really well trained because of his making it fun and challenging when I was little. His music is, as far as I am concerned as a musician, some of the very best out there for classical and his songs melt my heart. Thanks a bunch. Feel free to totally ignore this thread. katlaughing |
