Walkabout....this version is run by the BDO. Some years ago all the top professionals split with them, as it was the fiefdom of a single promoter who they saw as tyrannical etc. They formed their own organisation, whose own world championship finished a couple of weeks ago. They were shown on Sky, rather thgan BBC, who are still in contract with the BDO. The incomparable Phil Taylor is the rightful world champ, and all the real contenders are also in the rival competition.

Don't mention "ladies'" darts in folk music circles in Chester!

If that's true, then why is it so, TTC? (Martin Adams just won, by the way.)

WAV, the con is not the gane of darts, its title as 'World Championship' without featuring any of the world's best players is the con.

I've thought that about snooker, too, TS.

Why isn't darts a open game with men and women playing together. There is no real physical strength required so I can't see why women shouldn't be as equally as good as men.

No, Stu, I think darts (like croquet)is one of many tasks suitable for both the ladies and the gents. But, as I've said in prose and verse, ladies should play TABLE tennis, rather than lawn tennis; and netball, e.g., rather than rugby.

It's a pity that darts and pint mugs are too heavy for the ladies to handle. They're probably better suited playing croquet on the pub lawn.

I don't think it's "a con," TTC: apart from a bit of luck coming into it when a dart hits the wire and bounces off, I think it's one of the fairest of sporting competitions; and shall be watching at least some of the final at 5.45 PM, BBC 2.

None of them come anywhere near Phil Talor, oe Barneveld. It's a con.

More characters than you could shake a dart at...anyone been watching the World Darts Championship, on the BBC, from London..?

Poem 58 of 230: THE OLD BULL

Walked along Fog Lane,
    Looked at the park,
Stopped in the Old Bull
    And had a hark,
While eating lunch,
    On how at dark,
Many years before,
    My father's lark,
There, was games of darts -
    I'd filled an arc.
