Subject: RE: please help:get Free SpeechTV on DirecTV From: open mike Date: 08 Mar 10 - 02:41 AM grass roots reporting, things you will not see on stations where the corporations own the channels, and where advertisements support the networks. Non-commercial , progressive programs with topics like you might find in Mother Jones magazine, the Progressive paper and other independant media sources, speaking out for peace, justice and equality.Deep Dish T.V. News from indigenous cultures, women's news, from points of view that people have the right to hear and see, but rarely do because of the censorship inherant in commercial media. the videos created and produced are made by independant film makers who bring you the scenes from the neighborhoods, from the battle lines, news about health care issues, education and other issues important to people. It is a network of hundreds producers, videographers and editors who have created over 300 programs since Deep Dish TV was founded in 1986. Free Speech T V based on the second amendment, and features documentaries by activists who bring stories from all areas of life...agriculture, media, economics, climate change, environmental news, tribal news, whistle-blowers at work, three mile island, and much more.. the sad thing is that people have to ask what these stations offer, because they have never gotten the chance to see or hear them! I do not know if there is any relation between free speech t.v. and Free speech radio news, but that program is one that came about due to a strike and news reporters started going out and finding news on their own. http://www.fsrn.org/ and is now actively receiving information from over 200 free lance reporters who send in thier reports from all over the world. The Free Speech Radio News is broadcast over community radio stations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Speech_Radio_News |

Subject: RE: please help:get Free SpeechTV on DirecTV From: Melissa Date: 07 Mar 10 - 08:17 PM What type of programming do Free Speech and Deep Dish offer? |

Subject: RE: please help:get Free SpeechTV on DirecTV From: open mike Date: 07 Mar 10 - 08:14 PM in order to receive sat. tv you have to have a dish antennae, and a receiver and an account which costs from 20 - 100 per month depending on your program package. Link t.v., like NPR and PBS, is a listener-and-watcher supported program, and they solicit donations on the air, but their programs are available to all regular sat. t.v. customers, free-of-charge. i presume that dish network also offers their alternative programming to all customers. so there has to be some incentive to encourage the sattelite providers to include these innovative and sometimes radical programs. At one time, broadcasters were compelled to include "PEG" programs as a public service--political, educational, gov't. these requirements are no longer enforced as well as they used to be. the sat cimpanies pride themselves in prov8iding sports coverage, and many high definition programs, but they need to be reminded about grass-roots programs and alternative viewpoints. |

Subject: please help:get Free SpeechTV on DirecTV From: open mike Date: 07 Mar 10 - 03:52 PM in the U.S. there are basically 2 satelite t.v. providers. Dish Network (http://www.dishnetwork.com) and Direct T.V. (www.directv.com) there are several alternative t.v. programs available Link T.V.--www.linktv.org (formerly World Link) (LINK TV is on Channel 9410 on DISH NETWORK Channel 375 on DIRECTV ) Democracy Now--http://www.democracynow.org/ (carried on Link T.V.) Free Speech TV channel 9415 on DISH Network (not on Direct tv) Deep Dish TV (http://www.deepdishtv.org) some Deep Dish programs are on Free Speech TV on the Dish Network and LinkTV on Direct TV. I would like to organize a campaign to request that Direct t v add the alternative programming from Free Speech and Deep Dish. Here is a letter i sent...i hope to hear back with specific info about who is the programming manager at Direct T.V. Satelite company, to whom these requests would best be directed. I would like to start a poll or a petition (on face book or the petition site) to gather signatures to support this request. I imagine requests would carry more weight with the Direct TV company if they came from actual paying customers or people who (like myself) might choose to become a customer of Dish Network because of their carriage of these programs. Would mudcatters be willing to help me in this campaign? Are any of you Direct TV or Dish Network customers? Does anyone have experience with polls or petitions, and suggestion about the most efficient way to gather support for this? (as far as music goes, Direct T.V. recently changed over from Sirius/XM to Sonic, which carries quite a few music channels. Neither of these "services" carry much folky content as far as I know...though XM does have some bluegrass and folk) Unknown what music is available on Dish Network. thanks in advance for any suggestions, support or references on this. |
