"Witchs Money" by John Collier chronicles the invigorating effect of monetary inflation on an isolated village. It is one of the funniest short stories I have ever read.

as the financial crises deepens.

The middle class was like a Swan.
The Swan is the golden goose
that laid eggs of gold
stolen by the banks,
attacked by swan of a different color
in a mire of oil
so hot the Golden Goose
like the Gulf brown pelican,
gasps for air as it
drowns in the sea of oil.

The monster with no soul to damn
and no body to jail.
The monster is the trans-national corporation.
They are bad and they are going to get worse.
Corporate lawyers are bloody up to their elbows
as they tear the last egg
from the ass of
a lifeless bleeding corpse
that was once
a beautiful miraculous Swan.
