Subject: RE: Tech: What's up with this site? Café Mudcat From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 16 Dec 10 - 03:31 AM Yeah, I keep getting Ireland-related stuff flagged up on mine. Sneaky bastards, how dare they take Mudcat's name in vain... harumphhh... |

Subject: RE: Tech: What's up with this site? Café Mudcat From: Desert Dancer Date: 15 Dec 10 - 09:00 PM There are sites out there now that generate addresses from your Google search; also Mudcat is well-linked so high up in a lot of Google searches. I suspect programming algorithms, rather than specific intent, interest or relationship to the one, the only, the original Mudcat Cafe. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Tech: What's up with this site? Café Mudcat From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 15 Dec 10 - 04:35 PM Looks like a signpost to various advertisements. At the bottom was a "dealfind" for Calgary's best in dining, etc. This led to lots of adv. sites, but nothing specifically in Calgary. I looked because I live in the Calgary area. There are a number of these in the net; the lead-in looks promising but nothing there. Some purport to have bio data about some musician, or lyrics, but lead only to more advs or ask one to post some information. |

Subject: Tech: What's up with this site? Café Mudcat From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Dec 10 - 04:17 PM I ran across this website while searching for something else: Café Mudcat http://omgili.com/caf%C3%A9-mudcat There's a strange mixture of Spanish and English. There seems to be some connection with folk music. What's going on here? Is their content somehow derived from our content? (Plus their own advertising, of course.) Is it all just a scam to make people look at their advertising? I've seen suspicious web sites before, but never one that mentioned Mudcat specifically. I haven't successfully navigated to any other page, if there are any. The only links I clicked on either took me to other sites or timed out. It's really strange. |
