It's sorta like when they installed the yards on Peking at South Street. They were so weak that, without the lifts in place, they would have been barely capable of supporting their own weight, much less than being able to carry sail. Is it a restoration? It's more of a mock up.

I did wonder about that but do not know much about boatbuilding or woodworking. Still, I hope it works!

The question is whether the rot has been poisoned and impregnated or simply encased. If that is all that is being done, sooner or later, the passengers will have the opportunity to learn about bailing. Obviously, the right job would have the rotten parts measured, removed and replicated rather than simply plated over.

Quite the project!

I do wonder how encasing rotting wood between plywood and fiberglass will prevent further rotting and whether this man's dream may become his nightmare. But it's his dream!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble, who faithfully rebuilds his 50 year old Boston Whaler every spring with another coat of resin and fiberglass

I came across this article about a gondola being restored in Warwick, RI, for use in Waterplace Park in Providence. http://www.projo.com/news/content/gondola_makeover_01-03-11_2JLO404_v20.4b611e3.html
