Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Geoff the Duck Date: 07 Feb 12 - 04:41 PM New thread started, let's move discussion of this year's event to:- Yorkshire 2012 . Quack! Geoff. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: r.padgett Date: 02 Feb 12 - 04:09 AM stay the sprouts then, sorry! Ray |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 Feb 12 - 04:52 PM It is Mr H. Leadfingers stayed last year. There is no problem staying later on Sunday but the function room is used for Sunday lunches and the bar isn't really big enough but I do own a variety of gazebos and party size double gazebo which we could put up. Would also mean that if the numbers are up and we fancy an off shoot tune session that could also happen during the rest of the weekend. Last year the problem was wind but hopefully that won't happen this year. Presumably once lunches are over we could move back into the function room and carry on into the evening if enough folk are about. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mr Happy Date: 01 Feb 12 - 05:07 AM Is the camping available Sunday night as well? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Doug Chadwick Date: 31 Jan 12 - 12:54 PM Not !8th but, rather, 18th. I'll be there. Hope it's as good as last year but I would like to see it extend a bit further into Sunday afternoon this time. DC |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mr Happy Date: 31 Jan 12 - 07:41 AM So its definitely w/end !8th May at White Horse Old Sharlston WF4 1EP? |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Noreen Date: 28 Jan 12 - 07:43 AM Sounds very interesting. Can we book nice warm weather this year please? :) |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: bradfordian Date: 27 Jan 12 - 07:41 AM I'm likely to be away that weekend, but I can arrange to have sets of the THIS IS US Mudcat CDs there for collection if anyone would care to order any.(via PM to me) Individual CDs will also be available. bradfordian |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Geoff the Duck Date: 27 Jan 12 - 04:29 AM Ray and Raymond - We are talking about Friday 18 May. We are aware that would clash with Doncaster Folk Festival, but that month also has Holmfirth, Shepley and things happening on the May Day bank holiday, so a May weekend will clash with something. Quack! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: r.padgett Date: 27 Jan 12 - 03:48 AM Per my 2012 Diary Doncaster ff is May 18/19/20 May 18th beinga Friday Ray |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Leadfingers Date: 26 Jan 12 - 07:16 PM Might be worth starting a new thread if its definate |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Leadfingers Date: 26 Jan 12 - 07:14 PM I'll pencil that weekend in !! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Jan 12 - 06:51 PM Seems whatever weekend there is something on but pub is free on 18th so have pencilled it in. We can have the function room Friday evening and all day Saturday but it is used for Sunday lunches so may put up a party tent/marquee so we can have a session on Sunday as long as not too windy lol Breakfasts will be available both days and we can discuss what we might want as a meal on Saturday. It was a lovely do last year so I hope those who came will return and bring friends. Spread the word :) |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mr Happy Date: 14 Jan 12 - 07:29 AM This year, the former late May bank holiday w/end is Friday 1st June - Monday 4th June, which is when Chester FF is on [my local] However, I'd be interested in coming over to Yorksheer again if the dates are convenient |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: mally Date: 13 Jan 12 - 03:15 PM Filey FF is May 4th 5th@6th if that will help Geoff. Mally |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: foggers Date: 13 Jan 12 - 01:23 PM Super thanks Geoff. I will be perusing the regional festival calendar soon and will be happy to post dates to avoid, if that will be of use. |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Carol Date: 13 Jan 12 - 06:50 AM Twas a good weekend |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Geoff the Duck Date: 13 Jan 12 - 03:08 AM foggers - Someone was asking just a couple of days back if there were any plans for another session this year. As far as we are concerned, we are just starting to think beyond Christmastide and haven't got as far as May yet. If we do sort out a weekend, we try not to clash with nearby folk events and we haven't looked at dates of local Folk Festivals yet. We enjoyed last year, and the pub seemed to like us being there, so we probably need to decide fairly soon. I'll tell Mrs Duck you were asking. Quack! Geoff. p.s. From: GUEST,Guest - Did anything actually happen in 2011? I seem to remember revolutions in Egypt and Libya. A royal wedding. Bin Laden got shot. Greece went bust. Kim Jong got Ill, and a few folkies sat in a pub field on a fairly windy weekend in May. Quack! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: GUEST,Guest Date: 13 Jan 12 - 02:10 AM Did anything actually happen in 2011? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: foggers Date: 12 Jan 12 - 07:42 PM So then, Mrs Duck, Mr Duck, n all da ickle ducklings..... Is there going to be a Yorkshire Mudgather in 2012?? .... In hopeful anticipation...... |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: GUEST,Buddingplonkers Date: 28 Apr 11 - 06:57 AM We're from Wakey and looking forward to this FF, but it needs to be well advertised with to encourage plenty of local support and we've seen nothing yet. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Apr 11 - 07:26 PM We'll be there on the Saturday - driving up from Newark. I'm really looking forward to this one! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Carol Date: 06 Apr 11 - 06:10 PM Don't think we'll have any problem with the beer! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 Apr 11 - 01:21 PM Hope you're all spreading the word. If we get some weather like today's it will be wonderful. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 Apr 11 - 07:49 AM Hopefully there will be something for everyone during the weekend. There are no plans set in stone and at the end of the day it will depend who actually turns up. The landlady told me yesterday that she had to turn down a wedding (big profit) so hopes we'll be doing plenty of drinking. I said I'd see what we could do :) Six weeks to go :) |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: John J Date: 31 Mar 11 - 06:51 PM Dancing Ann: where are you located? JJ |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: GUEST,Dancing Ann Date: 27 Mar 11 - 08:31 AM Thanks for your reply, Noreen. I enjoy folk dancing and am starting to get into border morris. I play a bit of melodeon and my husband plays various instruments, including piano accordion (sorry, foggers). We are looking for music/dancing events to go to at weekends in our camper van. You did answer my question, thanks, and we might see you sometime soon. |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Tyke Date: 10 Mar 11 - 09:24 PM Well I never asking if there is a surcharge fot Banjos! Don't you realize we could not have a Campfire with out them! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: BanjoRay Date: 10 Mar 11 - 06:47 PM If there is. Geoff & I won't be there! |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: GUEST,foggers Date: 10 Mar 11 - 06:13 PM Hi again- yes count us in! 2 peeps, one tent and assorted instruments. Is there a surcharge for banjos? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Noreen Date: 10 Mar 11 - 02:22 PM Hi, Dancing Ann- if you're asking 'do we dance at Mudcat gatherings', the answer is 'it has been known' :) It all depends who is going- in times past we have had gatherings in places with a hall where dancing could take place and a scratch ceili band got together to play for dancing- good fun. I don't think that is on the cards for this gathering though- probably music and singing sessions- and chatting- but again, it depends who is there. Does that answer your question? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Mar 11 - 11:45 AM Hope to see you there. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Soldier boy Date: 09 Mar 11 - 05:00 PM Weekend after Holmfirth Festival of Folk sounds good Mrs Duck; can't say for definate just yet but will do my very best to be there and will let you know soon. Chris |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: foggers Date: 09 Mar 11 - 02:59 AM Hello folks As penniless house renovation monkeys, a folk gathering is a welcomed break from concrete and joists. I will consult with my chief engineer and see if we will be deserving of a weekend off by May 13th, though I am not sure if the lack of showers could cause him to baulk (he is rather a fastidious boy!) At the very least I will bargain hard for a day pass! Jane |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: GUEST,Dancing Ann Date: 08 Mar 11 - 01:17 PM Am new to Mudcat. Do you dance? More info please. |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: bradfordian Date: 10 Feb 11 - 10:08 AM Plenty of showers, I think it rains quite alot around Sharlston Common. Especially in the rhubarb growing season. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: BanjoRay Date: 09 Feb 11 - 05:43 PM Any showers? |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mr Happy Date: 09 Feb 11 - 08:56 AM I'll be floating the date [Friday the 13th - Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!] past the social committee this evening to see if they'll let me come. Will there be an al fresco minimalist open plan loo in the middle of the campsite like the one when I came your do before? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Feb 11 - 07:50 PM Looks like we'll make it, at least for a day trip. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Feb 11 - 04:38 PM Yes Jacqui thats the right date. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Feb 11 - 10:51 AM I'm just getting round to booking flights - can you confirm this is on for the weekend 13th May - I need to get dates confirmed before dealing with travel. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 04 Feb 11 - 11:41 AM Another suggestion was a batch of chili, veg curry and rice but will no more when I've spoken to Caroline (landlady) tonight. Seem to be a good few coming and hopefully more when the news spreads. It is not an exclusive Mudcat weekend so please feel free to invite folky friends just keep me informed for numbers etc. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: migginz Date: 04 Feb 11 - 09:15 AM ooh, I might be able to get there too I've scribbled it into my diary |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: mouldy Date: 04 Feb 11 - 02:39 AM I'll let you know nearer the time, just in case I am in the middle of renovations. (This all depends on me being able to afford the work this year, builders being available, and pre-work conditions being met). Should be able to drive to and fro from Eggborough, if I'm able to kip down at Nen's. Andrea |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Noreen Date: 03 Feb 11 - 03:08 PM And red cabbage? :) |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 03 Feb 11 - 11:54 AM But worth it, Hils! Going to have a chat to landlady on Friday to give her an idea of sort of numbers she can expect. I've had about 30 definites and a few maybes. May give some thought to idea of pie and peas on the Saturday night what do folk think? |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: My guru always said Date: 28 Jan 11 - 02:50 PM I'm trying to talk Richard into making the trip, but it's a LONG way for us with the van. Big field, huh? |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Barb'ry Date: 28 Jan 11 - 11:31 AM It's in my diary, Jane. We'll be there unless we get offered huge amounts of money to stay away... |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 28 Jan 11 - 09:45 AM Pub has a reasonable sized field which should be plenty big enough. £2 per night tent £4 caravan all occupants included. Very easy to walk from Hemsworth. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Dennis the Elder Date: 27 Jan 11 - 10:49 PM Nice Choice. Living in Hemsworth, I could walk there in around 45 minutes!!! It may be possible to camp on the "common land", not to far away if the council allow it. Hope to be there. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 27 Jan 11 - 02:54 PM The pub is the White Horse Old Sharlston WF4 1EP and date is 13th May. Nearest B&B is the Redbeck Motel according to my searches. We are hoping that the pub will do breakfast if there is enough interest. Also wondered whether folk might be interested in a pie and pea supper or something on the Saturday night or of course the pub does very good pub food. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: robstott Date: 12 Jan 11 - 02:35 AM I'd be interested in principle - of course depending on when, where etc! r. |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: jacqui.c Date: 09 Jan 11 - 09:06 AM There's an outside possibility that we might be able to do a day trip up from Newark on the Saturday, if it fits in with the rest of the stuff that Kendall wants to do when we come over in May. |

Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Jan 11 - 03:41 PM It will be closer to Wakefield Nick. Can't speak for the locals although they seem a good crowd. We will also have use of the function room so whilst welcoming friendly outsiders would have the right to ask them to politely shut up or ship out :) |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Nick Date: 08 Jan 11 - 02:28 PM Is this likely to be same sort of part of the world as previously ie not a million miles from Selby? If I'm about no doubt come and have a sing or play depending what sort of thing it is. Be nicer if it was a slightly more friendly response from the locals than the last one I came to. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Jan 11 - 02:05 PM Well we are pencilled in to the pub for the 13th. Cost of camping will be £4 per night for caravans or £2 a night for a tent regardless of number of occupants. May be room for negotiation but seems fair enough. All at discussion stage at moment but landlady said may be able to do breakfasts if enough takers. Sorry if it clashes with something but I suppose it is inevitable sometimes. |
Subject: RE: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: r.padgett Date: 08 Jan 11 - 12:51 PM Liz you are correct, Shepley show as a week later!! So that being polite has made a mess of Doncaster and left the previous week free! Some ppl are going to be perplexed Thanks, Liz |

Subject: Possible Yorkshire Folk Gathering From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Jan 11 - 07:53 AM Who would be interested in a Yorkshire Folk Gathering in May (hopefully 20th). The higher the numbers the better the deal I can cut with pub owners. Hoping to get use of a function room if we promise to eat at least one meal. Pub has field and real ale. A simple hands up at this stage should give me enough info to take to landlord :-) |
