Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: maple_leaf_boy Date: 13 Jan 11 - 01:09 PM To make room for more seats, Ballard removed a large portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from the Gardens. When asked about it, Ballard replied "She doesn't pay me, I pay her. Besides, what the hell position can a queen play?" Actually done and said by Harold. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Beer Date: 12 Jan 11 - 10:02 PM biLL, I think that Toe Blake would fit right besides Punch in a picture. Those fedora's were definitely a signature for the coaches of the 50/60's |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 12 Jan 11 - 09:19 PM that would be a story .... Harold Ballard ... just don't take your kids to see it ... wouldn't want them traumatized. Concerning Don's togs .... I think it's a bit too Mississauga swank ... Punch Imlach's garb is much more downtown ... with that fedora on and dark suit, a true blues brother, he looked like he just stepped out of Chess recording studios. biLL |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 12 Jan 11 - 08:46 PM .............. waiting for a life story about Harold Ballard. Now there was a true asshole of the first magnitude who outshines Don by far! At least Don knows something about hockey! |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 12 Jan 11 - 12:33 PM I been real impressed by Don Cherry's taste in suits. True, some of 'em are a bit on the loud side, but the man has got an eye for color. He is pretty expressive for a Canuck, I have to say. Mostly they tend to be kinda bland, but not this guy. I gotta get in touch with his tailor. - Chongo |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,999 Date: 12 Jan 11 - 10:55 AM I think he set the trend in fashion and that many people are expressing jealousy when they make remarks that put Don Cherry down. imo. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: maple_leaf_boy Date: 11 Jan 11 - 06:31 PM Yes, Alan he's best known in Canada, and I suppose he's famous in the U.S. (being a former Boston Bruins coach). He's an outspoken hockey guru (known for his eclectic suits). I usually only watch the Leafs games, but even when they don't play, I make sure I tune in to see his "Coach's Corner" segment. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,Alan Whittle Date: 11 Jan 11 - 05:37 PM I was disappointed to find out this wasn't about the jazz trumpet player as well. never heard of this other bloke. is he famous? |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Jan 11 - 12:59 PM The sad thing is...Shane never WILL grow up. Thus his greatest ambition (aside from having sex with Shania Twain, and then the rest of the female gender) is doomed to remain only a lurid fantasy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 11 Jan 11 - 12:55 PM regarding L.H.'s post above ..... oh good grief biLL |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Wesley S Date: 11 Jan 11 - 12:52 PM So there's more than one Don Cherry? I was only familar with This one |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Jan 11 - 12:47 PM I think Don Cherry is hilarious, and that most of what he says is just a big act, calculated to raise a ruckus and get people's attention. So far it is working great. Does he say idiotic things? You betcha! Is he a bigot? He may be to some extent, but I could say that about a lot of people. And the other thing to consider is this: He is Shane McBride's biggest hero. Shane wants to BE Don Cherry when he grows up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 11 Jan 11 - 10:17 AM I would much more enjoy a movie about Eddie Shack, or Punch Imlach biLL ... ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 10 Jan 11 - 02:05 PM In one of his early Coaches Corner episodes Patrick Roy was playing one of his first games for Montreal. Being French his name sounded phonetically like "wah". Cherry said something like "What's with this wah stuff; who ever heard of Wah Rogers?" Other comments followed on later broadcasts showing an anti-French attitude. I am not French but I am sure he would call me a Commie Pinko, which I am not. All of that aside the TV show of his life story was interesting and well done! You could enjoy a movie about Attila The Hun I suppose, without warming to the central character. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: gnu Date: 10 Jan 11 - 01:48 PM Haven't seen him in ages but I used to get a kick out of his speech pattern and the "typical hockey goon" mentality. Of course, he's says things that show he is a bigot which goes hand-in-hand with being a buffoon. My interest has waned as well... again, just a matter of courtesy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: number 6 Date: 10 Jan 11 - 11:09 AM "I always felt that Don had all the charm of one of those WWF buffoons" so true Sandy .... as far as I'm concerned hockey went downhill about the same time Don Cherry emerged onto the scene ... (that's my opinion, I certainly don't expect anyone to agree) biLL |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 10 Jan 11 - 10:50 AM I watched it a few months back. This broadcast is a re-run. I always felt that Don had all the charm of one of those WWF buffoons, and that has not changed, but the story I found fascinating in that it showed some humanity behind the bluster. It was well acted and directed and better than most of the tripe on the airwaves! |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: bobad Date: 09 Jan 11 - 09:09 PM I agree with Beer, he is a racist and bigoted loudmouth, not to mention a buffoon - sadly, he has a lot of followers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: Beer Date: 09 Jan 11 - 08:57 PM Well Gnu there was a time that I found him to be very entertaining. Now (I.M.H.O.)I find him to be nothing more than a raciest and bigot. The sooner C.B.C. drops him the better. Sure he is very good for the forces p/r and the harper followers and he does know his hockey but I for one will not miss him. So there I've said it just like our friend Raptor on the Beatles thread. Subject: RE: BS: Canuck alert... The Don Cherry story on From: gnu Date: 09 Jan 11 - 08:37 PM I didnèt either. But, I posted it as a matter of being polite. I love to watch Coachès Corner as it gives me a laugh sometimes. I mean... a true redneck with a mouth in a thousand dollar suit that looks like a highway sign... hilarious at times. |
