Subject: RE: BS: Aggravated assult against a hamster From: Nick Date: 11 Mar 11 - 01:25 PM What about giving her a really small room to live in, making her sleep all day in sawdust and then run round a wheel all night. Surely too cruel. |

Subject: RE: BS: Aggravated assult against a hamster From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Mar 11 - 01:08 PM I think that Corridus would probably approve of a harsh sentence in this case. |

Subject: RE: BS: Aggravated assult against a hamster From: Greg F. Date: 11 Mar 11 - 09:52 AM Interesting, and pathetic. A two-year sentance, and a felony? How much time do you get in New York City for killing a Rat? Or a White-Footed mouse? Both close cousins of the hamster. Or a lobster? This is idiocy times ten. Hey, "animal lovers" - who is it gets to choose which living things its OK to kill, and which get you locked up? |

Subject: RE: BS: Aggravated assult against a hamster From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 11 Mar 11 - 07:54 AM I wish that would happen in the UK despite being known as a nation of 'pet lovers' there is also a lot of cruelty going on. On the casualty list in Bristol there has been spate of killing swans, about 15 or so in the space of a few days. Luckily an injured female survived it. |

Subject: BS: Aggravated assult against a hamster From: gnu Date: 11 Mar 11 - 06:42 AM NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York teenager has been charged with a felony, with the possibility of a two-year prison sentence, for killing her family's pet hamster, authorities said on Wednesday. Monique Smith, 19, of Brooklyn was arguing with a family member in June when she reached for the hamster, choked it and threw it outside the house, police said. Her arrest stemmed from an investigation into the incident after Smith's father contacted the America Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said ASPCA assistant director Joe Pentangelo. Smith is charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals. If convicted, she faces the possibility of two years in prison. "Sadly, very often, pets find themselves in the middle of these situations," said Pentangelo. "A family will have a disagreement and unfortunately the animal is the recipient of misdirected or redirected rage." The hamster died from blunt force trauma, liver damage and a brain hemorrhage, he said. A grand jury selection to consider Smith's case is set to begin on Friday in Brooklyn Criminal Court.
