The acting is superb.
The sets are incredible.
The history is accurate.

Above post of mine was in reply to someone who posted a comment in French which has since been removed.

Je suis entièrement d'accord. C'est en effet une grande collection. Une période dorée dans le temps.

It's a well-made show, as we've come to expect from HBO. That said, I grow a bit weary of seeing gangsters, killers and crooked politicians glorified in glossy films and TV series.

I should like it. It has all of the elements that would draw me to a series or movie - but somehow I never connected with it. I'll try to give it another shot.

Is it currently on Sky Penguin Egg ? I wasn't aware it had arrived in the UK. I don't have Sky either. I downloaded the series.

No, because it is on Sky and I refuse to watch anything, or read anything, owned by Murdoch.

Just watched the 2 min trailer posted by HBO. Looks like another winner. HBO is doing what the networks WISH they could. Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sex In The City...I could go on.

We don't have cable or satellite, so I guess we'll wait for the DVDs. :-(

Been to Atlantic City lately? I have.

It was probably cleaner and safer when the mob did run it.

Charlie Luciano. Hope it's a good series.

Think Sopranos-ish setting, but put it back to the days of the old time gangsters in Atlantic City, back in the days of prohibition.

It is fantastic. I have just finished watching the first series.

They have accomplished what I previously thought impossible - made the creepy and gross Steve Buscemi appealing and sympathetic while still being a bad guy. They have created a host of complex characters, where even the angel is not a saint. They have used the real life characters of Lucky Lucciano (sp?), and Al Capone in his early days, and more. The costumes are perfect, the mix of crime and politics is spot on.

The music is spectacular and Sophie Tucker was outstanding. I looked to see if a soundtrack had been released but it hasn't been as of yet. The song over the end titles in episode eight was the original recording of Marilyn Miller's "Look for the Silver Lining." Much of the music may be found on the Naxos CD "Hits of 1920,"

Anyone else watching this?
