People hold dear what they need in their lives. A woman being elected isn't something to crow about. Thatcher was elected in the UK, and she destroyed many poor people, and in the process of doing that created many more to destroy. If it's necessary to laud women who have been barrier breakers for the equalization of gender influence and strength, I would wonder why Bella Abzug hasn't been mentioned.

Ferraro had guts, and she was human. I'm sorry she's passed.

Yep... she was all that. Which doesn't change the 'relevance' of her being a serious candidate. IF she & Mondale had been elected, it might have eventually been awkward....but...

Alright - I'll bite. This is the woman who, when confronted with questionable income tax forms that she signed, claimed she knew nothing about it because her husband handled that. This is the woman who, when her son was arrested for drug dealing, turned on the press for daring to cover the story. Some were permanently barred from her interviews. This is the woman who turned her run for president into a Coca Cola commercialthough she drank Pepsi.
Ferraro was like all the other politicians I see - ready to turn our futures into a buck.

Women like her, whether they won all their races or not, set examples that have gradually improved chances for others, and made the world a slightly saner place.

One day, we will have a woman president....and Geraldine Ferraro will be remembered again.

We named our stray cat in honor of her back in the 1980's. She too has passed away but I still keep in phone line in her name "Geraldine Katz" and periodically have interesting conversations with tele-marketers.

I just read a headline of this. She apparently has died of blood cancer at age 75. mg
