Sony Corporation has confirmed another leak of personal data, bringing the total number of accounts affected to over 100 million.

Sony says that personal information of 24.6 million people was hacked from a computer system of Sony Online Entertainment as of Monday. The figure includes data of 185 thousand users based in Japan.

The US subsidiary develops and distributes online computer games.

Sony earlier confirmed that personal information of 77 million online customers of its PlayStation and music and movie distribution services had been stolen.

NHK Japan....

Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai told a news conference in Tokyo on Sunday that he sincerely apologizes to the users for the concern and inconvenience the leaks have caused.

The move comes after the data of up to 77-million users, including names and addresses, were thought to be stolen from the PlayStation computer game network.

Hirai said the firm detected a 3-day security breach on April 20th and shut the network down immediately.

He said he cannot deny the possibility that information on as many as 10-million credit cards was stolen. But he also said there is as yet no evidence of any illegal use of the information.

He said his company has asked the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to look into the case.

He urged users to change their passwords immediately while the firm sets up tighter security measures.

He added that the company will create a post dedicated to data protection. He said some suspended services will resume in a week, and the rest within a month.

The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry has called on Sony to submit a report on the case and its preventive measures before services are resumed.
