Subject: RE: ADD: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: JennieG Date: 13 Nov 25 - 08:16 PM Dave the Gnome - the singer who had somewhat of a hit with 'I get a kick out of you' was the late Gary Shearston, an Ozzie singer. |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Johnny J Date: 13 Nov 25 - 09:56 AM I remember a version from Edinburgh performers including (I think) Harry Cullen and also Nick keir. Lines such such "Your name it is hear in high places. The Fiscal knows all about you You buy all your clothes at The Co-op and you work in Edinburgh Zoo...picking fleas off gorillas." "I remember the tenement apartment in a place just off Tynecastle Lane Where you keep your Sidney devine Records and a friend of Una MacLean" There's much more. I can probably remember most of them but if anyone has the complete song to hand that would be great. |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 12 Jan 24 - 07:28 PM According to Wikipedia (which I know isn’t always accurate!), Eden Kane was the eldest of three Sarstedt brothers, real name Richard Graham Sarstedt. The one called Clive later became known as Robin Sarstedt. It also gives Eden’s real name as Richard on his website. |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Backwoodsman Date: 12 Jan 24 - 05:17 AM Never met Peter but, back in 1964/5 when I was 17/18, around the time 'Boys Cry' was charting, my band opened at two shows for his brother, Clive Sarstedt (whose professional name is Eden Kane) at our local venue. A very nice chap, very professional, who kindly offered us the use of his band's excellent PA and back-line gear. A very good atmosphere in the dressing-room, which we shared with Clive and his band, The Downbeats. Clive is still performing, often in shows with Marty and Roxy Wilde. Still a great guy and an excellent performer. And still too bloody handsome! ;-) :-) |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 10 Jan 24 - 07:44 PM It’s a song my friends and I did at Girvan Folk Festival a few years back in their (supposed to be humorous, not serious) Folk Band competition. Our lead singer (female) dressed to look like Peter Sarstedt, complete with stick-on moustache and wig. The wig stayed on, but the tache kept unsticking and moving around at all sorts of strange angles, which brought the house down! It might still be on YouTube too! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Dave the Gnome Date: 05 Jan 24 - 03:07 PM Do you know Rob Mason, Robin? Used to sing with a duo called "The Likes of Us" who did a lot on the folk circuits around Lancashire until his singing partner, Vern, passed away some years back. They used to do a version which may be the one you are after. He is on Faceache I think |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 05 Jan 24 - 12:05 PM I think the one I'm looking for is yet another one. I have the Les Barker one somewhere and this one does not sound familiar from the snippets that I have been told about. The song is just too easy to parody! Robin |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Sarstedt) From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 05 Jan 24 - 10:28 AM Parody was Les Barker. You talk like Eddie Wareing and dance like Yogi Bear. Where do you go to my Doris when you're alone on the bus? Interestingly Sarstedt wrote two more verses, one of which was a little forthright and was removed from the single release. |

Subject: Lyr Add: WHERE DO YOU GO TO MY LOVELY (Sarstedt) From: bobby's girl Date: 16 Sep 99 - 03:38 PM These words are dredged up from my memory, so I wouldn’t swear to their absolute accuracy, but they're fairly close. You talk like Marlene Dietrich And you dance like Zizi Jeanmere (?) Your clothes are all made by Balmain And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair Yes there are You live in a fancy apartment Off the boulevard St Michel Where you keep your Rolling Stones records And your friends of Sacha Distel Yes you do But where do you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed Wont you tell me the thoughts that surround you I want to look inside your head They say that when you get married It'll be to a millionaire But they don't realise where you came from And I wonder if they really care Or give a Damn I remember the back streets of Naples 2 childrens begging in rags Both touched with a burning ambition To throw off their lowly-born tags they tried I know where you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed I know the thoughts that surround you Cos I can look inside your head |

Subject: Lyr Add: WHERE DO YOU GO (from No Mercy) From: Harry Hayfield Date: 16 Sep 99 - 03:27 PM Where do you go, my lovely? Where do you go? I want to know, my lovely! I want to know! Where do you go? I want to know! Where do you go? I want to know! You leave without a word, No message, no number, And now my head is (hanging?) (Like it were thunder?) You left me with a heartbreak deep inside, Girl, you should see me cry all night and I wonder, Everybody says "What is right, What is wrong?", They don't like the games that we play! Heard you hanging round, every night until dawn, Been waiting for you, night and day! Where do you go, my lovely? Where do you go? I want to know, my lovely! I want to know! Where do you go? I want to know! Where do you go? I want to know! You keep me dragging in silence. don't keep me waiting Just like the river flowing to the sea You're running back to me, Girl, hear what I saying Where do you go, my lovely? I want to know! Where do you go? Where do you go? I wanna know (Instrumental) Where do you go? Where do you go? Where do you go? Save Me! I'm driving back a tear, I cry for you baby! You've got to stop this heartbreak deep inside, You've got to help me through the night, Save Me! Come Back and Save Me! Where do you go, my lovely? Where do you go? I want to know, my lovely! I want to know! Where do you go, my lovely? Where do you go? I want to know! Where do you go? Where do you go? And there we are. Once again, thanks for "The Happy Wanderer" |

Subject: Lyr Add: WHERE DO YOU GO TO, MY LUGGAGE? (parody) From: Peter T. Date: 16 Sep 99 - 03:21 PM Try this instead (from http://www.troutmag.clara.net/luggage.html) WHERE DO YOU GO TO, MY LUGGAGE? (To the tune of 'Where Do You Go To My Lovely?' by Peter Sarstedt) You look like a suitcase by Cardin. Your straps are all leather, I'm sure. Full of clothes by the best of designers, well my aftershave says it's Dior. We impressed them all at Luton Airport, with your locks all picked out in gold, Off to the Costa del Plenty, so get into that cargo hold. (There you go, nice and safe.) But where do you go to, my luggage, when I'm on my charter plane? I'd like to get into my new shorts, but they're in Japan. I'm in Spain. (Yes I am. How'd you do that?) The plane's only 17 hours late. it could be much worse, so they say. The carousel spins around gaily. cases all get picked up, go away. (O.K., where've you gone?) I'm standing here like a Wally, no sign of my luggage again. A suitcase with a mind of its own is getting to be a serious pain. Oh where do you go to my luggage, when I'm on that charter plane? I want to get into a clean shirt, but somehow you got to Bahrain. (I said Spain. You know I did.) I remember the back shelves of Woolies, a suitcase all lost and alone, Saved from the season-end markdown, by my rush to get packed and go home. I know you're not really by Cardin. your plastic straps don't come from France. The gold's peeling off from your tinplate, but you look pretty good at first glance. But I know where you go to, my luggage. Why I turn round and there you are gone. You just can't forget where you come from. You're trying to get home to Taiwan. |

Subject: LyrRequest:Where do you go to my Lovely? From: Tom B. Date: 16 Sep 99 - 03:03 PM A mudcatter helped me identify the title of this song but did not know the lyrics. I think I can figure the chords if I had the words. It's by Peter Sarstedt ca.1969 on an eponymous album. Thanks! |
