Black Sabbath were an English rock band, formed in Aston, Birmingham in 1969 by Ozzy Osbourne (lead vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass guitar), and Bill Ward (drums). Led Zeppelin were an English rock band that formed in 1968 and consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968.[1] Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, |

|
Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Aug 11 - 11:01 PM Lots of heavy metal has more than 3 chords. For that matter. Lots Of Led Zeppelin music has only three. Oh, I get it, You are making up your own definition. OK, carry on. Pretend I wasn't here. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Aug 11 - 10:17 PM I had heard that Heavy Metal got its name from Le(a)d Zeppelin. Wiki says the First Metal bands were Zep, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. That sounds about right to me. I always liked Tull. But I consider them prog rock. To me, the flute diminishes the Heavy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Bobert Date: 09 Aug 11 - 09:29 PM The entire CD/LP... Great LP... I got it on CD, too... Best of early Tull... Got "New Day Yesterday" on it... Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: gnu Date: 09 Aug 11 - 09:03 PM Ya know eh? This brings up a question to my mind. Who was the first real heavy metal band? I say Jethro Tull. What sayest thou? BE VERY CAREFUL. If this turns into a real music thread it could be moved above the line and then turned into a discusion about whether it should be on a folk and blues site and then who knows what could happen. I mean, what is heavy metal anyway eh? Ohhh shit... >;-) Have fun with it eh wha? |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: gnu Date: 09 Aug 11 - 08:51 PM Gee whiz.... been brought back! Deep Purple "Highway Star" and so on tonight. I never considered myself a big "metal fan" but I guess I am. Of course, NOW I have to listen to Jethro Tull until I go to bed. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Bobert Date: 04 Aug 11 - 05:22 PM Techincally, Becca is correct... Neither Floyd or The oils are headbangers... Just like the Byrds weren't... If ya' got more than 3 chords in a song then more than likely the folks ain't gonna be banging their heads... Black Sabbath probably set the bar for headbanging... I mean, not even AC/DC or Metallica can match them in this category... Junkyard, yeah... Tangier, yeah... Alice Cooper, kinda... Zepplin, no... Ten Years After, kinda... Mountain, sometimes... But if yer looking for that Excedrin kinda handbagin' then stick with Ozzie and the boys... They'll give it to ya... In spades!!! B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Jack the Sailor Date: 04 Aug 11 - 09:52 AM Midnight Oil is a a band in a class by themselves. Hard driving rock and synth based protest music that appears to have made a difference. Australia was not given back to the aborigines, but Peter Garrett has really walked the walk as a protest singing activist. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: Bobert Date: 04 Aug 11 - 09:20 AM I don't but the Byrds into the headbanging category, however, back in the 70s I was a major Byrds fan and probably have a dozen of their LPs, which include a lot of the later re-constituted Bryds bands which were still interesting... Hey, ya'll... Anyone ever hear the band Tangier??? Talk about a head banging band... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Hey Bobster you Headbanger From: ollaimh Date: 03 Aug 11 - 11:19 PM i like a bit of rock and roll, and joanie is among the best at honest hard driving r n' r. however i've never bought an album of hers. now cream, the animals, the kinks and the byrds--i have bought cds of theirs on reissue. i still think "we gotta get out of this place" is the best rock song of all time and really cries out for a new cover version--a ready made hit with a few new lyrics and a bit of guitar to add to that classic bass line. the origional only had two verses and minimal music other than bass drumms and the organ. |
