West Norwood - thanks, I'll pop over there and try them.

"Discontinued tech stuff" - my camera has been superceded by the Fuji HS 20, but the lens thread remains at 58mm. I can also use a smaller threaded teleconverter with an adjustment ring to enable fitting to 58mm.

A friend uses an old-fashioned camera shop in West Norwood High Street, which has been good with repairs - don't know if they would have the part you need, but would, from what I hear, probably know where to point you.

Sometimes it isn't just that it is cheaper - it's that it is available somewhere at all. Don't know about your lens, but (for example) when you start looking for discontinued tech stuff, then it can be quite a search process.

I do really need to try the lens first. The existing lens on the camera is 21-720mm which needs a very steady hand on full 30 x zoom, so it is important to try the extra weight fixed to it. I'm not that fussed if the internet price is a few pounds cheaper - postage & packing would bump it back up again as a rule.

Great thing about the Internet is that lots of special interest fora come to life.

If London doesn't have the part you need, New York City probably does, and these places ship.

I used to use Jessops in Tot Ct Rd when I was in or visiting London & they used to do part-exchange. They've closed their Bracknell branch and I was not impressed by their Reading branch, latterly. I think online business and switch to digital has badly affected them. I now tend to buy online after doing a lot of research and have (touch wood) had some good deals with no problems. You need to do a lot of price comparisons, I ended up buying body from one supplier, lens from another and case from another etc. based on their current special offers.

If you know what the part is that you want, wouldn't buying it online be the cheapest option?
Both in cash, and in terms of your time finding / getting to a supplier.

I now understand that it needs to be a specialist supplier because not many Fuji HS10 owners seem to want a teleconverter, and having now spoken to several camera shops in London,I have been pointed towards SRB-Griturn in Dunstable - near to Whipsnade Zoo - now there's a day out!!!

By the by - in the directory for the greater London area there are at least 95 "Camera Repair" shops and over 100 "Photographic Supply" shops listed.

Perhaps try phoning round & see if they might have what you need.

Are you saying that one is not allowed to say where someone comes from....

No, that is:

1. Not what I'm saying

and

2. Not what you said.

Trumped up? Hey, Bozo, get real. You used an obvious racial slur. That's down to you.

My original thread was deleted for some trumped up racist reason. My question was, once again, are there any decent camera shops in the London area? I was appalled at the bad service in Croydon Jessops branches, which have now become little more than diy photo printing outlets.
