Good question, 999. I'd like to see an update, too. RangerSteve, I imagine you are adjusting. You should know that we are still here and we care. Sending love and prayers.

Steve, you deserve a mighty pat on the back for your honesty and btinging awareness to fellow mudcaters regarding diabetes 1 aor 2.

Perhaps a third of us have some degree of the the disorder and don't know it.

I went to the Doctor 70 times with diabetes like symptoms, extreme fatigue, tingling leg, cold fingers, difficult concentration but I still did not get any treatment until early this year.

I urge others to insist upon tests early and often.
For me it took way too long to have an alarming test result while losing almost 7 years of vitality of mind and body.

Despite the wait I was lucky that the single blood vessel in my hip joint grew back and after 3 years I have dissolved the dead bone and have replaced it with new bone without surgury.

The CDC sends out a warning every Xmas about the epidemic of type 2 diabetes. Heed the warning. The dementia, fatigue or crippling pain you feel may be 100% reversible.

I just take 3 pills a day and I am feeling younger every week.

PS losing 30 lbs has also helped.

KEEp up the disipline Steve and thanks again.

Good luck Steve. The psaltery is a beautiful instrument, a Sydney folkie, Margaret Bradford, plays some beautiful music on hers. It's also a great instrument to jam with - here's a tune to inspire you!

best wishes

freda

Have a bunch of postcards for you unmailed. Is your address the same?
Banjo players are sexier so get back to playing soon.

Steve, losing toes is no joke, especially the big toe, it being so important to balance, 'spring' and steady gait. However, losing a foot would have been one heckuva lot worse. Please let us know how things are and how your physio is going.

After the first operation, an artery bipass and removal of three infected toes, I went into a rehab center fot physical therapy - learning how to walk all over again. I thought of bringing my banjo, but found out tht banjos don't fit in wheel chairs or hospital beds with side rails. The same goes for guitars. I ended up going on line and purchasing a concertina and a bowed psaltery, both of which I plan on learning in my spare time, which I'll have plenty of.

A while back, I posted a request for good thoughts concerning an upcoming hospital stay that might result in my losing a foot to diabetes. I recieved a ton of good thoughts and prayers, and it seems that I'll be losing all the toes on my left foot, but the foot will remain. I can't help but believe that all the good thoughts contributed to this outcome. Thanks everyone. I'll be going under the knife on Thursday to have the last two toes removed and a small bit of foot, then it'll all be over, except for learning how to welk again.   And if anyone knows Bruce Murdoch, tell him I said thanks for the CD that he sent me. It's a really nice recording, and I'd thank him myself, but apparently, you need a person's mudcat name to PM someone, and doesn't seem to have one.
