If you're in any doubt about why 30,000 police officers marched, read this:

"Perhaps they should have invited anarchists to keep this demo in line..."

Interesting thought. I'm an anarchist and my elder son is a policeman.

I'd be interested to know the numbers on this demo. Usually, police and demonstrators disagree on numbers, but if the demonstrators ARE the police...

Mind, I think it's very good that police take part in this kind of protest. I would hope that it sends a shiver up the backs of government ministers - nothing like this has happened in my lifetime.

And I would hope that it might interfere with the process by which the police get brainwashed into seeing people protesting against the government as enemies. And even vice versa.

Once the police really join the opposition the power of governments starts to crumble.

Yes, I wonder who's going to beat them with batons and taser them?

I don't imagine there'll be any kettling involved.

Perhaps they should have invited anarchists to keep this demo in line...

Much as I dislike the woman, Maggie was much smarter than Cameron appears to be.

Well, I warned months ago that this would happen. Today an expected 20,000 police officers will join the protest in London against the almost-unbelievably stupid policies of this incompetent and uncaring (and increasingly unpopular) government.

They're fed up with the cuts in police numbers that are making effective policing impossible.

They're fed up with changes to their pension arrangements that mean they have to work longer and pay more than was agreed when they joined the force.

They're fed up with changes to shift patterns that make a reasonable family life all-but impossible.

They fed up with being expected to police the protests and demonstrations that are the backlash against the government's policies when they actually agree with much of what the protesters are demanding.

The police aren't allowed to strike – but don't be surprised if they do.

Oh, and who is going to police the police?
