Ok, back on topic. I was just keeping the thread afloat. I haven't had chance to go back to ABC since I started this - between gardening and the Olympic cycling today. Thanks again Les |

Subject: RE: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 28 Jul 12 - 08:21 AM Les, don't distract; you now owe me a funny explanation of your post of 27 Jul 12 - 02:55 PM. Do you have another notation or MIDI sequencing software? Then you may do it as I do. There is new and apparently good conversion software available now. Who has used it and can share experiences? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: Nigel Parsons Date: 27 Jul 12 - 05:22 AM Les; Split the syllables of words with a hyphen (-). To extend a syllable to cover several notes, follow it immediately (no break, but you can include punctuation) with an underscore. Make sure you keep your punctuation tight agaist the letters, otherwise it treats it as a syllable: ""go", I said" will fit 3 notes. "" go ", I said" would need 5. To delay the next word from appearing in the music, prefix it with an asterisk. To go to the first note after the next barline, use the 'pipe' symbol '|'(Upper case backslash next to 'z') To leave several bars on music with no words use multiple pipe symbols. Trial & error is GREAT! Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 27 Jul 12 - 05:16 AM Les, this problem is not minor. Try hyphens and underscores, or - horrible onus - read the documentation or a tutorial, to be found, I think, at abcnotation.com. My own knowledge is rather limited, since I edit my music in another software and export it to abc if desired. Real experts abound at Mudcat, who will doubtless answer any question you may still have after reading. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: Les in Chorlton Date: 27 Jul 12 - 04:55 AM Thanks Grishka. It's the lower case W ie. w, what does it! Minor problem now, getting the words under the notes - I guess I can add spaces? Les |

Subject: RE: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 27 Jul 12 - 04:17 AM Les, if you post a small example, we may tell you what you are doing wrong, if anything. I am using ABCexplorer myself and find the lyrics (small w:) where they belong. |

Subject: Tech: Getting words of songs into ABCexplorer From: Les in Chorlton Date: 27 Jul 12 - 03:36 AM We have been using ABCexplorer to generate tune books - all works well. I have been trying to get the words of songs between the staves but they either appear below the last stave or are centered and in small sized font. Any advice? L in C# |
