once you are there.. if you have a few mudcatters numbers you don't have to do the on the hour thingy.

If you are online and connected to ICQ it will let you know if anyone on your list is online.. then you can make contact.... If you have a few mudcatters numbers.. there are some in this thread... you will soon find more.

When you install and register with ICQ.. you will get a box that sits at the side of your screen ..in it there is a "add users" button... click on it... enter the ICQ number, or name of the person you are looking for and it will find them for you.

Looking forward to seeing all of you ICQ newbies on line... I've given plenty of people the guided tour.. it is really easy to use.

I'd like to point out that ICQ is a substitute for the official Mudcat chat room which Max is still fixing.... once it's up and running we can all use it.

If someone would share with the less than literate in computer matters just what is and how does one get an ICQ # I would be willing to check it out and try to learn it! I had about given up on the chat room because it seems almost every time I was able to get in there I would be talking to myself, and believe me, I don't need a pewter to do that!

On the hour has been the suggestion- when and where you can, check in (at ICQ for now, until the mudcat chat's bugs are fixed) on the hour.

Nope. There are many such things out there. Some are horrible. Some are beyond horrible. Some are sorta okay. And some are as good as or better than ICQ.

Allan C, I don't know what computer you are using or what browser you have (and the Mudcat Chat room is down at the moment) and I have only just started playing around with Java.

It sounds to me that if you are getting the page but just a square box, your browser can not support Java or possibly has Java disabled or another security issue (I'm trying to get my head round this at the moment). I don't know about other browsers but if you are running IE5, move the mouse over the box after the page has loaded and look at the status line - it might give some clues. Also on IE5, you can view the Java Console - trying to load this applet should create error messages there - perhaps some of the "gobbeldy-gook" may provide the answer but you'll have to wait until the page is back up before trying this.

I might be wrong but the pattern does seem to be consistent. It always seems to stop at the weekend and is usually available again for the radio on Wednesdays. Even though I once commented that it seemed to die slowly towards the beginning of the weekend, I'm beginning to think that Max probably shut it down and doesn't restart until Wednesday. Only Max can answer this.

Who knows? I have been trying to get into the Mudchat for quite a few weeks now with no luck. I get into the first window and get a glimpse of the guitar background just before it is obscured by a large gray window with "Click to Enter" above it. I click on that and get a glimpse of a huge window with the guitar background again and a much bigger gray window. And before another person tells me that "you just have to wait" let me say that three hours is about as long as I am willing to wait for almost anything. In other words, nothing happens beyond this. Nothing.
