Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: gnu Date: 29 May 13 - 02:12 PM Perhaps Harper used it as a way of getting minds off the Trudeau bandwagon? Yes... I do think he is capable of such. As for Mike, I wonder if he filled out his own claims? And, another angle... wouldn't it be great for the Cons to get the senate abolished or "elected" at this point in time? Well, after he gets as much mileage out of it as he can, especially after he squawked so much about before he got the opportunity to appoint senators. No matter what, why, who, when, how... I agree with Q that having to listen to all of this media hype crap rather than what is happening on issues of FAR greater importance is unsettling. I view this kinda bullshit as truely disgusting. The Duff will get his due during his day in court. Until then, I wanna hear about the infrastructure, the environment, medicare, education, the *&%$^%$^**ING war and all other things more "pressing" (depressing?). |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 May 13 - 01:25 PM Falsifying expense accounts is an old custom. He was caught, and is returning the money. Whether or not there was criminal intent is up to the Mounties. He is a senator, thus has little to do with making policy. The parties on the outside looking in consider it a YUMMY subject (dunno what that YMMV is), and are riding it in hopes of garnering votes, but it has nothing to do with the important issues of the day. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: bobad Date: 29 May 13 - 12:57 PM Well, I consider stealing from taxpayers somewhat more than "nothing" but YMMV. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 May 13 - 12:43 PM I guess the days of clean, hard-hitting debate are long gone. All the wrangling over nothing turns voters off. The response is "to turn the bastards out" or not vote at all. A shift in party may occur, but not as the result of a reasoned response to major issues. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: gnu Date: 28 May 13 - 08:59 PM I say Q nailed it... smoke and mirrors diverting attention from the important stuff. Stevie's MO. And the same for everyone since PET who the last guy that was actually a truely honest Canuck politician and he was called arrogant for it. Of course, there was Joe Who. Now there was an honest guy that could simply not be perceived as arrogant... how long did it take the bastards to take him out? Turner? Campbell? Martin? The good ones gotta "sell". They gotta be "liked" until the sheep are told the shouldn't. I "like" Justin because I think he has a chance, very slim, to be an honest man and stay in power long enough to get shit done IF he can get the support he needs from the guys who have real power IF they still have power. In any case, it's to see sad what goes on these days. Truly sad. My 86 year old mother can't even bear to read about this crap in the newspaper. It simply upsets her to see everything her generation, those before and the one after, fought and even died for, be thrown away for profit and greed. It truly saddens me as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: bobad Date: 28 May 13 - 04:08 PM I don't think it's the money amount that is of concern, it is the impropriety and illegality of the gifting. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 28 May 13 - 03:54 PM Slapstick comedy. All this nonsense on the part of the three largest Canadian parties in Parliament over less than $100,000. They slide over bills entailing millions in expenditures and waste time on an expense account. The media don't help. They just fill up air time and waste newsprint. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: gnu Date: 28 May 13 - 07:23 AM Harper said if he had known about the cheque he wouldn't have "allowed it to happen"? CBC Radio 1 commentary just now. WTF? If it was a private matter, a gift, what the hell would he have to say about it? Sounds VERY odd to me. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: GUEST,payoff Date: 27 May 13 - 06:38 PM Harper chief of staff made a direct bribe to shut Duffy up. It's a criminal offense to make a gift to a politician in hope of influencing policy. They didn't just influence policy, the budget committee stopped investigating Duffy. Wright should go to jail, and hopefully harper with him. Duffy had it made, other than weighing 400pounds. A soft job at 135000 A year plus twenty or so expenses. These tory brown nosers have no limits. And for wright to call it a gift, the height of cynicism for a political payoff. Looks like a bribe to most people. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: gnu Date: 27 May 13 - 03:56 PM What do Mike Duffy and Anne of Green Gables have in common? Both fictional residents of PEI. |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: gnu Date: 23 May 13 - 11:44 AM A man died and went to Heaven. As he stood in front of the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, 'What are all those clocks?' St. Peter answered, 'Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone who has ever been on earth has a lie clock. 'Oh', said the man. 'Whose clock is that?' 'That's Mother Teresa's', replied St. Peter. 'The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie. 'Incredible', said the man. 'And whose clock is that one?' St. Peter responded, 'That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abraham told only two lies in his entire life.' 'Where's Mike Duffy's clock?' asked the man. St Peter replied, 'Jesus has it in his office. He uses it as a ceiling fan.' |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 22 May 13 - 06:25 AM As he left for Peru his government is in deep trouble due to expense account scandal. Three senators have been kicked out of his caucus and his chief of staff has resigned after trying to return money to cover for one senator. He refuses to answer questions of the press or opposition parties, instead going on a trade junket to Peru. The people of Canada demand and deserve some honest answers that do not seem to be fortcomming! |

Subject: RE: BS: HarperGate From: Barb'ry Date: 22 May 13 - 05:20 AM I can't work out whether this is a thread about the Canadian Prime Minister's visit to Peru or a spam attack! I know he's going on some sort of trade mission but what's it all about, Sandy? (This is a genuine query, by the way). |
