Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: PHJim Date: 12 Aug 15 - 02:17 PM Yes, it is the original. It was written by Tony Hazzard who wrote a few tunes for Manfred Mann and some other British pop groups like Lulu, The Yardbirds and Herman's Hermits. Since you cannot copyright a title, it sometimes happens that they get used over again. The title of the old chestnut "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" was re-used by Van Morrison and that song got Rod Stewart a Grammy. Todd Snider's "Beer Run" was re-used by Garth Brooks, as was the line, "B, double E, double R, U, N." A little too close to be coincidence. Todd often introduces the song by saying, "I wrote this song and then a few years later some other guys wrote it again." |
Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: beeliner Date: 12 Aug 15 - 01:29 PM I was unaware of the Manfred Mann version - it's excellent, but is it really the original? There is, of course, a completely different song with the same title, which is pretty good too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k1-kh6HbHQ |
Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Aug 15 - 05:10 AM My favorite version? That would be the parody, Boxers and Socks by Peter and Kristina Cady. Here's a recording of the song by The Country Gentlemen: And here's the original version, by (believe it or not) Manfred Mann: |

Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: Janie Date: 11 Aug 15 - 11:00 PM Was the Manfred Mann recording really the original? |
Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: Janie Date: 11 Aug 15 - 10:55 PM This is my favorite, most likely because it was the version I heard first, at a small club, long ago and far away. Seldom Scene - Fox On The Run |
Subject: RE: Favorite Version of Fox on the Run From: PHJim Date: 11 Aug 15 - 09:05 PM The Good Brothers 1973 version was the first bluegrass style version I heard. It's still my favourite. Fox On The Run - Good Brothers The first time I ever heard it was the original by Manfred Mann. Fox On The Run - Manfred Mann |
