Subject: RE: Obit: Jim Harrison (1937-2016) From: keberoxu Date: 17 Apr 16 - 04:38 PM The first obituaries and reports gave no cause of death; well, that was last month. It is now a few weeks later. The more recent reports are saying that a heart attack was the cause of death, and suggesting that it must have happened quickly and relatively easily. He was not well anyway. He was a recent widower, and one of the online eulogies insists that he died of a broken heart, following the loss of his wife. His diabetes was a thing to contend with. He also suffered from shingles, badly, and he had had spinal surgery within the past five years. Subject: RE: Obit: BS Obit: Jim Harrison, 1937-2016 From: keberoxu Date: 15 Apr 16 - 08:35 PM Never heard of Jim Harrison. Ever hear of Wallace Stegner or Edward Abbey? Not to mention Doug Peacock who is still alive, still publishing books, and wrote a nice memorial for Jim Harrison? Sigh. Ever hear of a film called Legends of the Fall, whose actors include Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt? Adapted from a Harrison book. In fact you might look at www.imdb.com, because I believe Mr. Harrison was rather well-known in Hollywood, writer-wise; so I suspect he has got his own IMDB page. The truth is that I have not sat down and read my way through one of Harrison's full-length books myself; but he is one of those North American writers with a reputation: people in general have heard his name if they haven't read one of his books, and other writers have positively heard of him even if they never encountered him. |

Subject: RE: Obit: BS Obit: Jim Harrison, 1937-2016 From: Jack Campin Date: 15 Apr 16 - 06:21 PM Page Not Found. The Wikipedia page about him has been updated. Macho ruralism is not my thing and I'd never heard of him. |

Subject: BS Obit: Jim Harrison, 1937-2016 From: keberoxu Date: 15 Apr 16 - 05:43 PM An author, not a musician, so in the BS category. However, a number of Mudcatters have cited him amongst their favorite writers. Jim Harrison: December 11, 1937 - March 26, 2016 http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/28/arts/jim-harrison-free-spirited-writer-dies-at-78.html?_r=0 Link hopefully repaired. Nothing appeared to be wrong with it, except it wasn't working. Head scratcher . . .
