Ach no, Rick
The fact that that show and the 'sequel', "Yes Prime Minister" was a great favourite of non other than Maggie, Iron Man, Thatcher, has to spark off a few discussions as to what Conservative Party politics consisted of in those troubled times.
Spittin' Image was also known for gettin' Maggie rolling around on the floor in fits of unadulterated joy. B.

If you can, get your hands on a paper edition. It's every bit as good, particularly if you've watched it on TV and see Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne in your mind's eye. But even without that, the characters and situations are so well drawn and seem to be taken straight from life. Our own German slush funds scandal makes me think of 'Yes Minister' quite often. All these wide-eyed, innocent boys, having the wool pulled over their eyes by each other ... I find, though, I have to read the episodes one at a time, the way they're meant to be on TV. Otherwise the effect wears off. - Susanne

The station, I believe, is YTV - I think that you can get it only on satellite or cable.

It is interesting watch the younger Derek Fowlds as the innocent assistant and comparing him to the crusty sarge in Heartbeat (now there is a music connection!!). He almost looks like Dixon of Dock Green.

I used to look forward to this series, and would love to watch some reruns. Is it on at the moment? where? The minister was really quite innocent, and the civil service so guilty - what a contrast.

Its been a long time since I saw an episode of Yes Minister. I always loved it. Now and again some really horrible puns. Come to think of it I might have a video of some of the episodes. Thanks for reminding me I may watch it the next time I have some free time. I remember hearing an interview on CBC with the actor who played Bernard after the actor who played Hacker died. Clearly Yes Minister was a show that crossed the pond well.

Subject: BUGS! Shades of 'Yes Minister'!
From: Rick Fielding
Date: 09 Dec 99 - 11:26 AM

Since I've had to return to my stereo, www.red hot jazz.com, morning newsapaper, and the little used television over the last couple of weeks to get my "music, humour and wit fix of the day", I've re-discovered the astonishingly well-written series "Yes Minister".
When I saw the photo in the paper this morning of Gerry Adams holding the bugging device placed in his car, I thought I would bust a gut. He has a look on his face that implies: "How COULD they? I REALLY trusted them! Gosh (or faith and begorrah) Why can't we all just get along!"
I can just picture the Minister (or Prime Minister) huddled in a panic session, begging Sir Humphrey to find the proper spin that might lessen the embarrassment.(With Bernard, of course piping up pedantically with definitions of the word "is".)
Not sure if there's any interest on Mudcat for this kind of thread anymore, but if anyone DOES have the inclination, I'd love to hear your feedback on this wonderful show.

Rick
