Subject: RE: BS: Respect for National review conservative From: Donuel Date: 26 Apr 18 - 06:50 AM Goldberg though conservative did not ride the Trump train. He says we have forgotten the value of gratitude. The meme today is to inflict harm and reaction in an 'opponent' and relish the resulting injury as in "their tears are so delicious". Lies are the tip of the spear to pierce the heart. The motivation for Jonah's words is to resuscitate the conservative voice above the shock jock noise but it is also a lesson for the left. Yes they are only words but it was words that lifted us from the muck. Someone here is speaking freely about re lighting the ovens of final solutions. When standing at a cliff there are some steps you can not come back from. |

Subject: RE: BS: Respect for National review conservative From: robomatic Date: 25 Apr 18 - 07:44 PM To me this is a worthy cautionary argument insofar as the interview takes it (I have not read the book). You can take any approach too far, such as identity politics, which is an old concept with a new name and emphasis. In the old days Fiorello Laguardia campaigned to ethnic neighborhoods in New York City in fluent Yiddish, Italian, and English, and his approach was a successful blended multicultural one. That kind of basic politics will never go away. But, these days that approach has morphed to an "us-against-them" tactic that was apparent on both the Democratic and Republican side of 2016s Presidential campaign. There are external and internal forces feeding into these current movements. Jonah Goldberg is not someone I'm super familiar with. I've read some of his columns and I don't remember finding them unrealistic or obviously flawed. In other words, he's very different from the outright wackos I hear on the AM band late at night, prime example being Alex Jones. |

The issues o nationalism, populism, tribalism and identity politics is discussed in short here.Goldberg speaks at length on npr |
