I'm a rabid, militant atheist but my heritage includes the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the Raphael Rooms, Titian's Madonna and Child in the Venice Accademia, the dozens of basilicas, cathedrals and churches in which I've spent hundreds of hours in Europe, Giotto's frescos in Florence, the Michelangelo Pieta, Leonardo's Annunciation in the Uffizi, the astonishing mosaic on the back wall of the basilica in Torcello, Mozart's Great C minor Mass, his Ave Verum Corpus, Bach's Mass in B minor, all those cantatas, Allegri's Miserere...they're all mine as much as they're anybody's. My heritage, and that's just the religious bits!

Heritage is everything that's been passed down to us. It's essentially the same as Roots.

Heritage has a myriad of meanings. To some it means 'My Heritage' that recently had all of its 92 million customers lose thier personal purchasing data due to a security breach. To others it means a history of classism. Or it might mean your point of view point of a nation, race or culture.

My heritage includes knowing people who were happy when JFK was shot in the head, as well as people who were devestated. There were people I heard say they were glad RFK was stopped before the primary. I even people who were overjoyed at the shooting of Martin Luther King. While the murder of progresive leaders was heinous it was effective in crippling the left for 50 years. It was a loss of hope.

I see those people again who supported the carnage of the left mirrored in the links of folks like Iains. Based on the history I have witnessed I express a point of view that is not heard or understood my some of the young and old here.

As for you, you wil see heritage differently. Maybe with a current pride or a shame in which you bear no respondsibiity for that past.
