Just back from the second of those 2 gigs which was very well attended, that one being on the "home territory" if you like to call it that. To quote another song "they had to send for far more chairs"!
And apparently the first achieved a good-sized audience too. Possibly a few from club 2 might have come in for club 1 had they not been on consecutive nights, but I somewhat doubt it.

And yes, Steve, some artistes' itineraries are totally ridiculous, and take no cognisance of geography, tho' they have to go where and when the gigs are offered, I suppose.

In the 70s 80s this was an accepted part of tours. We had a well known club on a Sunday night in a large city and another smaller club in a small town 23 miles away on a Monday used to take our guests regularly for a reduced fee. Everybody happy. Guest got bookings near to each other on consecutive nights. Different audiences but sometimes singers from the big club would go through with the guest to the small club. Never caused any problems. Nowadays even some of the top guests are in Exeter one day, Scotland the next and London the next. You can't keep that up for a lot of years.

This is very true but it might have been a consideration, if I was doing the bookings, that members from their own local club might have come to support them at the other gig.
Unless it's a well known name, it's helpful if an act can bring along their "own following".

Anyway, I'm well out of these things now. :-))

My impression is that these 2 clubs have pretty separate clienteles, so I doubt if it will impact hugely on attendances at either venue.
Having said that, there used to be a sort of rule for artists not to accept gigs within a certain geographical radius and time span, tho this can be tricky for (not relevant to this particular case) bands from far afield who want to set up a mini-tour, maybe playing 4 or 5 clubs within a 40-50 mile radius on consecutive nights. This is down to the judgment of club booking secretaries as to whether their usual punters will come to their usual club or go to another of the gigs.

No names, no pack drill but I've just noticed that the same "local" act is appearing in two local folk clubs tonight and tomorrow.

The clubs are about six miles apart.
Tomorrow's club is even more local for the particular band as they are regulars there. So, the members there who might have been expected to visit the gig tonight will be unlikely to attend. While this group is not the most high profile outfit, they do have a following in their own area but not so much "up the road" where they are playing tonight.

It seems a shame that the two gigs are so close to each other both in terms of distance and time. One or both of them will "miss out" on an audience and it's so unnecessary.
