Subject: RE: BS: train galway or dub to clonmacnoise IR From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Oct 19 - 04:56 AM AirBnB has a good number of places in Athlone, which isn't very far. I'm wondering, though, if it would be reasonable to make a one-day bus trip from Galway to Clonmacnoise. That's not very far, either. And hey, people also take boat tours from Athlone to Clonmacnoise. It's a wonderful place to visit, and the nearby town of Shannonbridge is very nice. You can take the train from Galway to Athlone in an hour, and then take a boat to Clonmacnoise. The primary boat company seems to be Viking Cruises, which does not run year-round. http://vikingtoursireland.ie/ I'll bet there are other boats. -Joe- |

Subject: BS: train galway or dub to clonmacnoise IR From: mg Date: 23 Oct 19 - 02:45 AM I am going to Ireland in midmarch..budget trip, going to ct offaly where my gggf was from. probably clonmacnoise area. i can not find cheap cheap accomodations in clonmacnoise..have a great whole apartment reserved in birr but i can not figure out transportation. it seems eurail pass should work between galway and/or dublin and it seems they do go there daily. Can anyone confirm. i have been googling. i don't mind several hours of trains per day as long as i could just show my pass like in england. i don't want to plan out the trip too much in advance...depends on genealogy sources, weather, etc. i am going to reserve some refundable room in galway and have refundable in birr...can i do all this on a rail pass? i am getting conflicting messages from google and it probably will be off season still..although it will include st. patrick's day. |
