But parodies are a major part of folk music.

and if they only programmed "proper" Folk music every act will be doing 52 verses of Bold Robin Hood and Child ballards.

Bruce, I think the current committee only accepts 'proper' folk music. :)

Fantasic, a couple more and you'll have enough for a full set at the next National Folk Festival.

Thanks Phil,

I discovered the filk community a few years ago. Thanks to COVID I got to do a concert at the Ohio Valley Filk Festival last year. A lot more people have bought my filk albums than my 'serious' folk albums. :)

Cheers all,

Daniel,

SRS: Better check your tent tag's fine print, Omar was filkie - A new way to collect chanties.

Hojotoho! Hojotoho! Heiaha! Heiaha! is a 'sing out' cheer for Viking zombies marching to Valhalla... 0_0

Interesting, Phil. I hadn't heard of Filk but it looks like there's another camel's nose heading for the edge of the folk tent there. :)

Daniel: Congrats on getting Harry Potter musically legit above the line. You are first in the franchise!

If you haven't already checked it out, you may find a kindred soul or a mountain troll here:
Filk music
What is filk?

I. Love. These. I fell for the Hermione song at the Singaround.

The mind boggles! But good luck with it. The nearest the HP stories get to the sea is when the lovely lasses are sailing home in their fairy ship from the interschool games. The last thing they needed was a chanty.

You can still park this kind of thing in the music section, Daniel. Whimsical stuff is sometimes very useful. :)

On the back of the TikTok Shanty craze, I had an idea to write a shanty parody inspired by the world of Harry Potter.

Once I had written one, I couldn't stop. I've now published an album here of Harry Potter Sea Shanties.

Unlikely to be to everyone's taste, but it's already selling much better than my serious 'folk' albums, in 2021 anything is possible!
